Programming Specialist

SUMMARY

Performs software development and maintenance of applications and systems for the organization. Plans and coordinates all activities related to the design, development, and implementation of the organization’s applications. Conducts software coding, testing, debugging, and installation of an organization’s application systems. Documents requirements for databases, applications, and systems. Works closely with customers to document current operating procedures and support their projected operational needs.

May serve as an expert in all aspects of software design, development, and maintenance and may support multiple development teams and systems. Responsible for developing, distributing, supporting, enforcing, and integrating best practices and technology standards across the organization. Researches, collects, and reports information on the ability and capacity of products and systems. Allocates programming team resources and set delivery schedule to meet client requirements. Ensures projects are completed on time and within budget. Assists in the formulation of procedures and best practices for users of applications and systems. 

JOB DUTIES

Must be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the related IT field. Relies on experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complicated tasks. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. Works under general supervision. Typically reports to a project leader, supervisor, or manager. Must be adept at problem solving, identifying risk, and communicating results and recommendations to department management.

Duties include but are not limited to: Developing and implementing software solutions: Programming specialists design and create software applications to meet business requirements. Debugging and testing: They troubleshoot and test software to ensure it functions correctly and efficiently. Collaborating with teams: Programming specialists work with other team members to coordinate and execute specific projects. Providing program updates and reports: They provide regular updates and reports to management, helping to track the success of their programs. These duties highlight the importance of a programming specialist's technical expertise and their ability to work collaboratively and manage projects effectively.

REQUIREMENTS

Requires Bachelor’s degree; or an Associate’s degree with at least 4 years of experience; or a minimum of 60 semester hours of formal education working towards an associate or bachelor’s degree and at least 6 years of experience; or at least 8 years of experience is required. Additional certifications (other than those required for the position) in the area of specialization be substituted for experience or education but varies by certification. The degree must be in a relevant technical curriculum and experience must be related to the job duties.

Work is indoors collaborating with team members.  Climb stairs, sedentary, lift up to 10 lbs.
