The Lead IT Project Manager is responsible for the operational success of a pool or cluster of enterprise network IT projects to be executed within the constraints of classified/closed areas.  They are accountable for the standard of execution across their team and ensures the projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet all technical specifications and compliance requirements.They provide the technical "how-to" for project management, ensuring that all reporting people are utilizing consistent methodologies, meeting milestones, and managing risks effectively.

Key Responsibilities

1. Operational Leadership & Coaching

Direct Supervision: Manage a small team of Project Managers; provide daily guidance on project scheduling, resource leveling, and task prioritization.
Process Standardization: Establish and enforce a unified approach to project tracking, reporting, and documentation across all supervised projects.
Quality Assurance: Review and approve project plans and status reports generated by reporting PMs before they are escalated to senior leadership.

2. Execution & Delivery

Project Planning & Execution: Develop and maintain a detailed project schedule, defining tasks, milestones, and dependencies.  Drive the project team toward the completion of deliverables, ensuring that technical requirements are translated into actionable tasks.
Critical Path Management: Own the master schedule; identify bottlenecks across multiple projects and reallocate resources to maintain the critical path.
Risk Ownership: Lead the Risk and Opportunity (R&O) process, facilitating brainstorming sessions with reporting PMs to identify and mitigate technical and schedule risks.
Deliverable Oversight: Ensure all customer deliverables are verified, validated, and delivered on time and within the specified quality requirements.
3. Integration & Communication

Cross-Functional Coordination: Act as the primary liaison between the project team and supporting functions (e.g., Finance, Program, Business Partners).
Conflict Resolution: Mediate resource conflicts between reporting project managers to ensure priority projects are staffed.
Customer Interface: Lead progress meetings with the customer, supported by the project team

Because this role involves a combination of collaborative/in-person and independent work, it will take the form of a hybrid work format, with time split between working onsite and remotely.

Required Skills and Education

  • Experience: 7–10 years of project management experience in a technical environment (Defense/Aerospace preferred).
  • Management Experience: At least 2–3 years of experience directly supervising other professional staff or leading project teams.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Business, IT or a related technical field.
  • Clearance: Active Secret clearance or the ability to obtain one.

Preferred Skills and Education

  • Methodology Expert: Deep knowledge of Agile, Waterfall, or Hybrid project management frameworks.  Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification preferred. 
  • Tool Mastery: Advanced proficiency in project scheduling tools and BAE-specific reporting templates.
  • Mentorship: A demonstrated ability to upskill junior PMs in the areas of budget tracking and risk management.
