Working Conditions / Schedule:This position is required to be onsite Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Where applicable, employees may work remotely on Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Additional hours may be required based on business needs.
Key Responsibilities:Â
- Serve as the technical lead for electrical harnessing architecture, design, and integration across vehicle and subsystem levels
- Own end‑to‑end wiring interconnect system (WIS/EWIS) development including requirements, schematics, harness layouts, drawings, analyses, and as‑built configurationsÂ
- Define harnessing architectures for high‑voltage, high‑power, and signal‑level systems in spaceflight and lunar surface environmentsÂ
- Lead trade studies and design decisions related to wire types, connectors, shielding, grounding, separation, routing, and protective featuresÂ
- Collaborate closely with mechanical engineering on routing, packaging, strain relief, bend radius compliance, structural interfaces, and vehicle integrationÂ
- Author and review harness drawings, wire lists, pinouts, cable assemblies, and installation documentationÂ
- Ensure designs comply with applicable NASA and aerospace standards (e.g., NASA‑STD‑8739.4, NASA‑STD‑4009, IPC/WHMA‑A‑620, MIL‑STD‑1553 where applicable)Â
- Act as the primary technical interface for harnessing with NASA customers, partners, suppliers, and internal IPTsÂ
- Support planning and execution of harness fabrication, inspection, integration, and test activities (continuity, EMI/EMC, functional testing)Â
- Provide technical oversight during vehicle integration, troubleshooting, rework, and anomaly resolutionÂ
- Mentor and guide junior and mid‑level engineers, setting best practices for harnessing design and documentationÂ
- Contribute to design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR), flight readiness reviews, and qualification effortsÂ
- Support configuration management, requirements traceability, and verification documentationÂ
Â
Required Qualifications:Â
- Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred), Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related fieldÂ
- Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in electrical harnessing, wiring interconnect systems, or related aerospace electrical designÂ
- Demonstrated experience leading harness design for complex aerospace or spaceflight systemsÂ
- Hands‑on experience with high‑voltage or high‑power harnessing (>120 VDC or kW‑class systems)Â
- Direct experience working with NASA programs, payloads, or flight hardware (human‑rated or Class A preferred)Â
- Strong background in electrical system design including power distribution, grounding, shielding, and signal integrityÂ
- Working knowledge of mechanical integration principles affecting harness design (packaging, tolerancing, thermal, vibration)Â
- Experience with aerospace wiring standards and workmanship requirementsÂ
- Ability to lead technical efforts independently and make sound engineering judgments under schedule pressureÂ
- Excellent written and verbal communication skillsÂ
- Self‑motivated, organized, and comfortable operating in a fast‑paced development environment
Preferred Qualifications:Â
- Master of Science (MS) in Electrical Engineering or related disciplineÂ
- Experience supporting Artemis, ISS, Commercial Crew, or comparable NASA programsÂ
- Familiarity with EMI/EMC mitigation strategies and electrical bonding for space systemsÂ
- Experience with CAD and electrical design tools such as Altium Designer, SolidWorks, Zuken, or equivalent
- Experience with harness manufacturing, supplier oversight, and acceptance testingÂ
- Prior experience in an aerospace startup or agile commercial space environmentÂ
- Experience contributing to internal process development or harness design standardsÂ
