- Receive, process, store and discharge waste on board the ship.
- Monitor Company Waste Management Policy, regarding separation
- Operate and clean all waste related equipment and facilities.
- See that waste handling procedures are in accordance with VSP, EPA, USDA and any other relevant regulations.
- Become familiar with all safety and technical equipment used in the waste management facility.
- Follow the terms of the employment contract.
- Is familiar with and complies with the ship’s SMS, including the safety and environmental policy.
- Promotes the ship’s waste management and environmentality programs.
- Emergency Duties as specified in the ship Assembly Plan.
- SMS – uphold the general safety management responsibilities in areas and operations under their control.
- Responsible for overseeing the cleanliness, storage, and general upkeep of waste handling areas and cold storage fridge.
- Prepares Hazardous and Bio-Hazardous waste for offload as per D.O.T. and RCRA regulations with regards to loading, labeling, storage, use, and proper offload/disposal.
- Provides weights and volumes of recyclables and wastes to be manifest for offload each week. Verifies, records, and provides the data of actuals offloaded to the Environmental Officer.
- Provides and weights and volumes of waste incinerated onboard and sends reports to the Environmental Officer for addition to the Garbage Record Book and monthly consumption reports.
- Completes a weekly inventory of consumables used in the waste handling areas and provides a list of orders to the Environmental Officer weekly.
- Responsible for monitoring pest activity in the waste management areas and recording and reporting findings to the Environmental and Sanitation Officers.
- Verifying that the waste processing equipment in the garbage room is maintained in good condition and reports to the Environmental Officer any issues with equipment.
- Oversees the feeding of the incinerator shredders and that proper practices are in place to avoid any prohibited items from entering the silos.
- Provide training to the Environmental Stewards on proper use of equipment and all relevant waste management handling procedures.
- Assisting the Environmental Officer in a supervisory role.
- Identifying and bringing forward new processes and procedures to improve waste management and recycling onboard.
- Responsible for overseeing the safe and proper storage of waste onboard and preparing for waste offloads.
- Supervisory role for any 3rd party vendors that are brought onboard for additional support to sort and segregate waste.
- Assist the Environmental Officer in scheduling Environmental Stewards.
- Critical role in assisting the company in meeting our waste diversion goals by seeing that as much materials are recovered as possible and not sent to landfill.
- Provides feedback to the Environmental Officer on the GP Environmental team for performance reviews.
Basic Qualifications
- Have previous relevant experience
- Be genuinely interested in a career at sea and willing to live and work onboard a Disney Cruise Line vessel
- Be committed to the position you are applying for at least 2-3 contracts before a transfer or promotion
- Be willing to follow and perform safety role, emergency duties and/or associated responsibilities as specified in the ship Assembly Plan
- Be willing and able to uphold the general safety management responsibilities specified in the Safety Management System in areas and operations under their control
- Be willing to follow and embrace United States Public Health requirements and guidelines as well as Environmental requirements and Company practices
- Be willing to share a cabin with other crew members and appreciative of working and living in a multi-cultural environment
- Be comfortable living in a confined space with strict rules and regulations
- Adhere to a structured lifestyle, personally and professionally

This is a SHIPBOARD role.You must:
- Be genuinely interested in a career at sea and willing to live and work onboard a Disney Cruise Line vessel
- Be willing to follow and perform safety role, emergency responsibilities, and associated responsibilities as specified in the ship Assembly Plan
- Be willing to uphold the general safety management responsibilities as specified in the Safety Management System in areas and operations under their control
- If applicable, be willing to share a confined cabin with other crew members and appreciative of working and living in a multicultural environment that has strict rules and regulations
- Have a valid passport and C1/D Seaman's visa (DCL will provide you with documents to obtain this)
- Complete a pre-employment medical
- Obtain a criminal background check
