Lead Engineer, Global Endpoint Hardware
Role Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Lead Engineer, Global Endpoint Hardware serving as the global technical authority for endpoint hardware across the enterprise. This role owns the strategy, design, standardization, and lifecycle management of all endpoint hardware, including laptops, desktops, peripherals, docking solutions, displays, and related personal computing hardware.
This role will establish and maintain global hardware standards, ensure compatibility and reliability of device drivers and firmware, develop and maintain endpoint monitoring and alerting, and provide technical leadership for global endpoint hardware management. The role partners closely with OEMs, suppliers, procurement teams, security teams, endpoint engineering, and regional Field IT organizations to ensure a consistent, secure, and scalable end-user computing experience worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
Global PC Hardware Management
- Define, maintain, and govern global standards for laptops, desktops, mobile devices, PC monitors, docking stations, audio peripherals, and other accessories.
- Develop hardware roadmaps aligned with business, security, and operational requirements.
- Drive innovation through evaluation of emerging endpoint technologies.
- Establish processes for hardware lifecycle, refresh, and retirement standards.
- Drive standardization initiatives to improve reliability, supportability, security, and total cost of ownership.
Device Configuration
- Lead endpoint device drivers, firmware, BIOS, and hardware compatibility.
- Define processes for driver validation, testing, deployment, and lifecycle management.
- Ensure interoperability between hardware platforms and enterprise operating systems.
- Partner with security and endpoint engineering teams to establish firmware and BIOS security baselines.
- Lead root-cause analysis and remediation of hardware-related incidents affecting enterprise endpoints.
Vendor & OEM Management
- Serve as the primary technical interface with OEM and technology partners including hardware manufacturers and peripheral vendors.
- Lead technical evaluations, proof-of-concepts, and hardware qualification efforts.
- Influence vendor roadmaps to align with enterprise requirements.
- Conduct business and technical reviews with key suppliers.
- Manage escalation processes for critical hardware, firmware, and driver-related issues.
- Collaborate with global IT, business leaders, procurement and sourcing teams on hardware selection and standardization decisions.
Global Field IT Enablement
- Serve as the highest level technical escalation point for hardware standards and endpoint platform issues.
- Build strong partnerships with global Field IT organizations.
- Communicate updates to standards, policies, procedures, and technical roadmaps.
- Develop technical documentation, deployment guidance, support processes, and operational runbooks.
- Lead global readiness and training initiatives for new hardware platforms and technologies.
Required Skills & Experience
Core Technical Expertise
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 8+ years of experience in endpoint engineering, client platform engineering, desktop architecture, or hardware engineering.
- 3+ years of experience leading enterprise-wide hardware strategy and standards.
- Experience working directly with major OEMs such as Dell, HP, Lenovo, Microsoft, Logitech, Jabra, and other enterprise technology vendors.
- Experience supporting global endpoint environments consisting of thousands of devices across multiple regions.
- Strong knowledge and experience with Windows and Mac hardware
- Device drivers, firmware, and configuration standards
- Enterprise hardware lifecycle management for global organizations
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Microsoft Intune, Microsoft Configuration Manager, Autopilot, and Entra ID.
- Familiarity with Digital Employee Experience (DEX) and endpoint analytics platforms such as Lakeside SysTrack, Nexthink, ControlUp, or similar solutions.
- Experience with procurement and hardware sourcing processes.
- Knowledge of compliance frameworks, and hardware security controls.
- Industry certifications such as Microsoft, ITIL, PMP, or vendor-specific endpoint certifications.
