Lead Data Architect (AWS)

We are looking for aLead Data Engineer with strong AWS experience for our client's data platform migration project. You will lead the migration of a legacy on-premise data warehouse (Sybase IQ) to a modernAWS-based architecture, designing and building bothreal-time and batch data pipelines. The role combines technical leadership with hands-on engineering: you will shape the target architecture, guide the team, and deliver the solution end to end. This is not a purely advisory position.

This is a long-term contract position in a highly regulated banking environment, working fully onsite.

Responsibilities

• Lead the migration of a legacy data warehouse (Sybase IQ) to an AWS-based data platform.

• Design and implement the target architecture built on Amazon S3 and Amazon Athena.

• Build real-time data processing using AWS Lambda in Python.

• Develop and run batch processing workloads with AWS Glue.

• Plan and execute the data migration, including schema conversion, data validation, and source-to-target reconciliation.

• Provide technical leadership to the data engineering team: set engineering standards, review code, and mentor engineers.

• Work closely with architects and client stakeholders to translate business requirements into robust data solutions.

• Ensure data quality, security, and compliance in a regulated financial-services environment.

• Produce technical documentation: solution designs, data flows, and operating guidelines.

• 5+ years' experience inData Engineering, including alead or senior technical role.

• Proven hands-on experience building data platforms onAWS in enterprise environments, with verifiable project references.

• Strong experience withAmazon S3 and Amazon Athena as the core of a data lake / analytics architecture.

• Hands-on experience developingreal-time processing with AWS Lambda in Python.

• Practical experience buildingbatch processing pipelines with AWS Glue.

• Experience withdata warehouse migration projects (on-premise to cloud).

• StrongPython and SQL skills.

• Ability to lead the technical discussions andmake decisions about the solution and design.

• Have a consultancy mindset → always try to find a solution for the client

• Excellent English, written and spoken.

• Willingness to workfully onsite and to be occasionally flexible with working hours.
