Abbott’s Established Pharmaceuticals Division (EPD) is looking to recruit a:

Director Regulatory Affairs LATAM (m/f/d)

Based in Sao Paulo or Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Primary Job Function:

  • Provide strategic leadership for Regulatory Affairs across LATAM, driving regulatory excellence and business growth through effective regulatory strategies, external influence, and strong organizational leadership.

  • Build and develop a high-performing matrix organization across affiliates and regional teams, fostering a culture of accountability, ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

  • Act as a senior representative of Abbott with health authorities, industry associations, and key stakeholders, shaping the external regulatory environment while ensuring alignment between regulatory priorities and commercial objectives.

Core Job Responsibilities

  • Combined knowledge of scientific, regulatory and business issues to develop products to meet required regional and local regulatory requirements.

  • Develop a comprehensive regulatory external engagements stakeholder management strategy with leadership of regional heads and other key stakeholders of each of the business units of EPD in LATAM.

  • Coordinate and execute strategies related to regulatory intelligence and policy, advocating Abbot’s position with Regulatory Agencies and related policy influencer groups.

  • In collaboration with Development build advocacy positions with scientific / academic institutions and / or Regulatory Agencies to promote Abbott science.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities:

  • Direct Reports: Up to 7 direct reports

  • Indirect Reports: Up to 20 indirect reports

  • Dotted line: Up to 11 dotted Line reports

Position Accountability/Scope:

  • Strategic leadership of regulatory activities across LATAM, including development, registration, and LCM for EPD products.

  • Sales Impact: Supports a commercial portfolio, ensuring regulatory continuity and enabling new launches.

  • Budget Responsibility: Oversees a regulatory budget, covering agency interactions, and compliance activities.

  • Representing the company in interactions with health authorities and industry associations to influence regulatory policy and harmonization efforts.

Minimum Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in related scientific discipline or Advanced degree (MS including MS RA, MEng, Ph.D.) in scientific discipline preferred.

Minimum Experience/Training Required:

  • Demonstrated strategic leadership capability in shaping and executing complex regulatory strategies across multiple markets, ensuring alignment with business priorities, growth objectives, and portfolio ambitions across LATAM.

  • Proven track record of influencing and engaging senior regulatory authorities, industry associations, and policy-shaping stakeholders, successfully advancing regulatory frameworks, policy positions, and business-critical initiatives.

  • Recognized leader with the ability to build organizational capability through a strong culture of accountability, ownership, performance excellence, and transparent decision-making, driving sustained results across geographically dispersed teams.

  • Demonstrated success in leading large, complex matrix organizations, aligning regional, affiliate, global, and cross-functional stakeholders behind common objectives while effectively managing competing priorities.

  • Strong ability to develop, coach, and empower affiliate regulatory leaders, creating high-performing teams and strengthening organizational capability across the region.

  • Proven experience establishing and maintaining influential partnerships with affiliate leadership, commercial organizations, medical affairs, quality, supply chain, and global regulatory functions to accelerate business outcomes.

  • Track record of successfully driving organizational transformation, fostering collaboration across countries and functions, and creating an environment where teams take ownership, proactively solve problems, and deliver with urgency.
