Lawyer - Insurance Defence

Responsibilities:

• Managing insurance defence litigation files independently
• Conducting examinations for discovery
• Attending mediations and pre-trial conferences
• Preparing for and attending motions
• Handling LAT case conferences and/or hearings
• Drafting pleadings, motions, correspondence and other litigation materials
• Working closely with senior counsel on larger or more complex matters
• Communicating directly with clients, opposing counsel and other parties throughout the litigation process

Qualifications:

• Approximately 2-4 years of insurance defence experience
• Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
• Experience independently managing litigation files
• Hands-on experience with discoveries, mediations, pre-trials and motions
• Experience with LAT proceedings
• Strong written and oral advocacy skills
• The ability to manage competing deadlines and maintain ownership of a busy caseload
• Small Claims Court experience is considered an asset
