Overview 

 

This is an exciting role working in professional legal education. It will suit an enthusiastic candidate who can work on their own initiative and managing projects. The role sits within the Law Society Professional Training team of the Law Society of Ireland Education Department.  The team offers CPD training to qualified solicitors and other legal professionals.  


The successful candidate will an interest in education and a proven track record in project management, compliance and working with grants. A legal background would be an advantage.


The Law Society Skillnet Network Manager will work with the Law Society Skillnet team and have shared responsibility for the strategic, financial, operational and governance and administration of Law Society Skillnet. This will assist the Network in achieving its agreed objectives, KPIs and financial targets and delivery of high-quality, industry-led skills development programmes.


The role combines strategic network development, stakeholder engagement, programme and project management and administration, financial management and administration, procurement, governance, compliance, audit, reporting and training delivery.


The successful candidate will manage courses and training events. Some of these Law Society Skillnet events take place in regional locations. Therefore, the candidate must be capable of a degree of flexibility and be available to work occasional evenings and Saturdays when required during course time. The candidate must be willing to travel within Ireland.

 

This is an 8-month contract position reporting to the Acting Head of Law Society Professional Training and Law Society Skillnet.  

 

Main Duties & Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will carry out the following duties in line with the Society’s standards and strategic objectives and as directed by the Acting Head of Law Society Professional Training and Law Society Skillnet:

  • Assist in the strategic and operational development of Law Society Skillnet in accordance with the Network's strategic plan and agreed objectives.
  • Have shared responsibility for the effective financial management of Law Society Skillnet within the approved budget and Skillnet Ireland funding framework assist colleagues in preparing annual budgets and financial forecasts, monitoring income, expenditure, cash flow, match funding and programme costs throughout the year and audits.
  • Provide high-quality governance (financial, operational, KPI and programme reports) and secretariat support to the Law Society Skillnet Steering Committee, organising, minuting and reporting to at least four meetings per annum.
  • Manage procurement and contract activity for training providers, consultants, venues, eLearning and other goods and services in accordance with Skillnet Ireland and Law Society procurement requirements.
  • Ensure full compliance with Skillnet Ireland funding agreements, operating guidelines, procurement requirements, branding requirements and other applicable policies and procedures. To include ensuring compliance with relevant Law Society of Ireland policies and procedures.
  • Have shared responsibility for achieving the Network's agreed annual KPIs and targets.
  • Use stakeholder engagement, research, market intelligence, participation data and evaluation findings to assist in identifying programme priorities.
  • Manage and administer the end-to-end delivery of Law Society Skillnet training programmes and events.
  • Implement appropriate plans to promote Law Society Skillnet programmes and activities and promote the Law Society Skillnet brand.
  • Act as the principal operational contact between Law Society Skillnet and Skillnet Ireland.
  • Manage, support and develop Network staff and/or administrative resources as appropriate.



Knowledge & Skills

The following experience is highly desirable:

  • Experience within the legal, professional services, financial services, education, training or skills development sectors.
  • Working with government-funded or grant-funded programmes.
  • Previous work within a membership organisation, professional body or a Skillnet network would be advantageous
  • Knowledge of developing funding applications or business cases.
  • Familiarity with digital learning and learning management systems.
  • Demonstrable experience of managing budgets and financial performance
  • Previous project management experience
  • Knowledge of the Irish legal sector
  • Must enjoy working on own initiative
  • Be methodical, flexible and capable of undertaking multitask driven work.
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A flexible approach to working as occasional late evenings, weekends and travel within Ireland with overnight stays away may be required
  • Have good IT skills, able to handle data input, production of reports etc.
  • Proactive approach with a can-do-attitude to work
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines
