Job Title: L&D Development Specialist IV (Onboarding Instructional Designer)
Work Location: US โ Remote (Onsite preferred: MPK/Bay Area)
Overview:
The Onboarding Instructional Designer plays a key role in shaping and optimizing Meta's global learning experiences for new hires. This role focuses on creating impactful learning resources to build core skills critical for success. You'll collaborate with onboarding program managers, subject matter experts (SMEs), and cross-functional partners to design, implement, and continuously improve onboarding content for both live and self-paced learning.
Responsibilities:
Conduct needs and gap analysis to identify priority onboarding skill development areas.
Partner across onboarding programs to ensure cohesive content strategy and execution.
Lead the full lifecycle of learning content design and creation, including outlines, course design, stakeholder management, editing, and delivery.
Set tone, voice, and messaging for onboarding programs; socialize content to secure alignment and buy-in.
Collaborate with SMEs and stakeholders to ensure content accuracy and relevance.
Support facilitation training for those delivering onboarding content.
Evaluate and update content based on learner feedback and evolving business needs.
Test and pilot innovative learning methodologies and modalities.
Act as a point of contact for new hires, ensuring alignment with broader learning and development initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications:
8+ years of experience managing internal/external learning projects in a matrixed organization.
Proven expertise in the full lifecycle of learning content design, creation, and facilitation.
Experience developing global learning programs for international audiences.
Strong writing, editing, and communication skills with attention to tone and clarity.
Excellent collaboration, presentation, and stakeholder management abilities.
Proven record of working independently in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.
Strong problem-solving and creative solution development capabilities.
Must-Have Skills:
Learning Content Design & Creation
End-to-end course design experience (live and self-paced).
Ability to conduct needs analysis, create outlines, and manage updates.
Experience adapting content for international audiences.
Strong Writing & Communication
Exceptional writing and editing skills for diverse audiences.
Experience setting tone and messaging for learning programs.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Program Management
Proven experience partnering with program managers, SMEs, and stakeholders.
Ability to build strong relationships and align learning strategies across teams.
Nice-to-Have Skills:
Experience in tech industry training, global L&D, or onboarding.
Experience supporting facilitator training.
Familiarity with eLearning tools (HTML5, Adapt framework).
Experience with LMS systems (Cornerstone preferred).
Understanding of post-training evaluation models (e.g., Kirkpatrick's Model).
Day-to-Day Activities:
Conduct needs/gap analysis and identify learning opportunities.
Design, develop, and maintain onboarding content.
Collaborate with stakeholders for content quality and alignment.
Set and socialize tone, voice, and key messaging for onboarding programs.
Train facilitators on onboarding delivery.
Continuously enhance onboarding materials based on feedback and performance metrics.
Experiment with new learning techniques and technologies.
