Job Title: Junior Board Hardware Design Engineer
Role Overview
As a Junior Board Hardware Design Engineer Consultant, you will help design, develop, and test our next-generation electronic products. You will work alongside senior engineers to take designs from initial concept through schematic capture, PCB layout, prototyping, and hardware debugging. This role is ideal for a motivated entry-level engineer or recent graduate eager to develop hands-on skills in high-quality hardware development.

Client is where individual imaginations gather together, committing to the values that lead to great work. Every new product we build, service we create, or Client Store experience we deliver is the result of us making each other’s ideas stronger. That happens because every one of us shares a belief that we can make something wonderful and share it with the world, changing lives for the better. It’s the diversity of our people and their thinking that inspires the innovation that runs through everything we do. When we bring everybody in, we can do the best work of our lives. Here, you’ll do more than join something — you’ll add something!

This role is within the Client Maps Hardware Team. We are a forward-thinking team that designs and builds data collection rigs. There is no normal days in this group - we all wear many hats each day to support our mission of creating world-class mapping and data collection hardware.

  • Prototyping & Assembly: Bring up new hardware prototypes, including hands-on board rework, soldering, modifications, and MCU/FPGA programming
  • Testing & Verification: Use lab equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers) to test, debug, and validate hardware functionality against specifications.
  • Documentation: Generate and maintain engineering documentation, including Bills of Materials (BOMs) PCB Gerbers, test plans, and design reviews.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with firmware, mechanical, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless product integration.
  • Fabrication:Work with PCB fab and assembly vendors to submit designs and answer technical questions. Suggest part substitutions when components are out of stock.

Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE), Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Circuit Fundamentals: Strong understanding of analog and digital circuit design principles.
  • ECAD Experience: Familiarity with PCB design software such as Altium Designer, KiCad, OrCAD, or Eagle (academic project experience is acceptable).
  • Lab Skills: Hands-on experience with standard lab equipment and basic soldering/rework skills.
  • Problem Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to diagnose hardware issues.
  • Communication: Clear written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and teamwork.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with common communication protocols like I2C, SPI, UART, or USB.
  • Prior internship or co-op experience in hardware development or electronics manufacturing.
  • Basic understanding of power management (buck/boost regulators, LDOs) and signal integrity basics.

What We Offer
  • Mentorship from senior engineering staff to accelerate your career growth.
  • Hands-on experience with cutting-edge technology and product lifecycles.
