Senior Market Operations Analyst

The Role

Voltus is hiring a Senior Market Operations Analyst to own the operational success of our most strategic markets, at a moment when the stakes for that work have never been higher. We're absorbing new responsibilities from our Energy Markets team, and we're gearing up for a major expansion of our Bring Your Own Capacity(BYOC) business across MISO and PJM. Both mean more surface area for Market Operations to own, and we need a senior analyst who can move fast into that space.

This role is built for someone who takes total ownership of their responsibilities, doesn't settle for a surface-level understanding of a problem, and can reason from first principles to become a subject matter expert fast. You generate your own priorities without waiting to be told what to do next, because the environment moves too quickly for anyone to hand you a fully-formed playbook.

The work matters beyond Voltus. Markets and ratepayers depend on us every day to deliver energy that is reliable, affordable, and clean.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Market Operations Analyst, you will:

• Own your markets' operational success, whether you execute the work yourself, coordinate it across the team, or automate it. You're accountable for availability and offers, interval data collection, performance calculations, and every enrollment and post-event deadline, on time and without material error. Expect occasional night or weekend work during busy periods or new product launches.

• Deliver high-stakes, high-visibility analyses that move revenue, the kind of work that directly shapes how much we get paid in a market and how competitive our value proposition is there. Expect this kind of work often, not occasionally.

• Grow quickly from hands-on execution into owning outcomes, whether that means doing the work yourself, guiding teammates through it, or eventually managing junior analysts who report to you.

• Lead the build-out of new programs and product capabilities, including transforming our OR/PR programs to support batteries and standing up new program launches in SPP.

• Be the subject matter expert for your markets, advising Product, Engineering, and Sales on complex market details.

• Lead ambiguous decisions where no SOP exists yet, and drive root cause analysis on incidents, building durable fixes rather than one-off workarounds.

What Success Looks Like

In your first six months, we'll build a competency matrix defining what strong performance looks like at each stage of growth for your major responsibilities. You'll start at the Senior Analyst level, and we'll check in against the matrix regularly as you ramp and grow within it.

Beyond that, you're measured in two ways: an always-on standard of no compliance violations or lost revenue from process errors, and project-based goals scoped individually, with a clear definition of what it takes to score a 3, 4, or 5 out of 5. For this role specifically, we expect you to grow quickly into leading larger initiatives like the OR/PR and SPP work above.

Qualifications

This role is genuinely ambiguous day to day. Priorities shift with little notice, SOPs often don't exist yet, and you're expected to build the process, not just follow one. If you've thrived in a heavily structured, procedure-driven environment, such as a utility or a trading desk, that structure is exactly what won't be here, and this role will likely feel disorienting rather than exciting. We're looking for someone who has already worked this way and found it energizing, not someone hoping to adapt to it.

• 4+ years in a role where you personally owned business-critical outcomes in an environment with minimal process scaffolding: you were expected to define your own approach, not execute against an existing playbook. Energy or clean tech experience is a plus, but not required.

• Strong, demonstrable Python skills used to automate real operational workflows, not just analyze data. You should be comfortable describing a specific process you automated end to end to solve an operational problem. This isn't a software engineering role, so we're not looking for production-grade code, just someone who reaches for automation instead of doing repetitive work manually. SQL is a nice-to-have, not a requirement.

• A track record of taking a complex, multifaceted situation and distilling it into a clear, actionable strategy, with concrete examples you can walk through and their business impact.

• Genuine, specific alignment with Voltus' mission of accelerating the clean energy transition. We're looking for evidence of this beyond a resume line.

• A collaborative teammate who delivers feedback kindly, has coached or mentored others, and is excited by eventually guiding junior teammates.

• Able to begin work by 8 AM Central Time.
