Computer Science - Tenure-Track Assistant Professor

Sacred Heart University (SHU), located in Fairfield, Connecticut, houses itsSchool of Computing & Engineering (SCE) within theCollege of Arts & Sciences. SCE offers two graduate programs (M.S. in Computer Science & Information Technology and M.S. in Cybersecurity), and seven undergraduate Bachelor of Science programs—Computer Science, Information Technology, Game Design & Development, Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.

To support the continued growth of its computing programs, the School of Computing and Engineering invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor for the ABET-accredited B.S. in Computer Science program at SHU. The successful candidate will be a dynamic and innovative educator-scholar committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching, student mentoring, and scholarly activity. The position emphasizes hands-on, project-based learning and active engagement with students, while contributing to curriculum development and continuous program improvement aligned with ABET accreditation standards. The anticipated start date for this position is August 2027 (Fall semester).

Primary responsibilities include:

• Designing and teaching problem-based, hands-on undergraduate courses in computer science, with an emphasis onmachine learning, generative AI, natural language processing, and computer vision.
• Conducting scholarly computer science and artificial intelligence research appropriate for a teaching-focused institution.
• Supervising graduate and undergraduate student research as well as mentoring senior capstone design projects.
• Collaborating with industry partners and the SHU community on interdisciplinary projects.
• Supporting continuous program improvement and ABET accreditation activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence or a closely related discipline, completed by the start date of the appointment.
• Expertise in artificial intelligence, machine learning and language models preferred.
• Commitment to a highly interactive, student-centered learning environment
• Openness to innovative and hands-on pedagogical approaches
• Demonstrated potential for scholarly research and professional growth
• Experience developing or maintaining industry collaborations

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with active or project-based learning approaches
• Experience applying machine learning techniques within any scientific context
• Evidence of an ongoing scholarly research agenda and publication activity
• Experience developing or maintaining industry collaborations
