Job Summary:Â
The EmploymentCounselloris responsible for delivering employment services geared to the needs of specific target groups within the full-suite employment model. This positionis responsible forworking one-on-onewith clients of the Integrated Employment Services program under Employment Services.Â
Â
Job Specific Responsibilities:
Direct Client Service
- Provides direct one-on-one support to job seekers in a client-centred manner.
- Manages client case loads.
- Performs employment and needs assessments for clients.
- Reduces barriers to access for the populations served by the program.
- In partnership with the client and/or relevant stakeholders, develops, reviews and monitors employment service plans.
- Supports clients in their career exploration and job search.
- Assists clients to build support networks.
- Provides assistance with intake/assessment processes.
- Establishes and maintains positive and supportive relationships with clients.
- Provides information and resources to clients.
- Provides financial supports to clients in keeping with program guidelines.
- Problem solves difficulties and celebrates successes with clients as appropriate.
- Participates in regular chart reviews and case conferences.
- Performs client follow-up as per program guidelines.
- Maintains awareness of current issues and developments in the respective field.
- Liaises with clients and external resources/organizations as required.
- Establishes working relationships with relevant agencies/services that support client needs.
- Makes referrals to other staff and/or agencies pertaining to relevant client issues.
Â
Administration and Program Support
- Maintains electronic client records and documentation in accordance with program requirements.
- Ensures accurate case notes and program documentation.
- Participates in chart audits and data integrity reviews.
- Assists in maintaining program resources and materials.
- Works collaboratively with employment services staff and Centre teams.
- Participates in team meetings, case discussions, and program planning activities.
- Provides consultation and resources to staff regarding client support strategies.
- Participates in program evaluation activities.
- Maintains effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
- Supports volunteers and student placements through orientation, guidance, and mentorship.
- Contributes to program development, policies, and procedures.Â
Position Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.Â
Professional Experience
- 3–5 years of experience in areas such as:Â
- Employment counselling or career developmentÂ
- Working with immigrants, newcomers, refugees, and Internationally Trained ProfessionalsÂ
- Supporting individuals facing barriers to employmentÂ
- Facilitating employment or life skills workshopsÂ
- Developing partnerships with employers, mentors, or community organizationsÂ
- Working with diverse populations in a community or social service settingÂ
Key Competencies
- Knowledge of labour market trends, employment legislation, and workforce integration issues.Â
- Understanding of barriers affecting immigrant and newcomer job seekers.Â
- Knowledge of adult learning principles and group facilitation techniques.Â
- Strong documentation and case-management skills.Â
- Ability to manage caseloads and monitor client progress.Â
- Ability to build partnerships with employers, mentors, and community agencies.Â
- Knowledge of community and social service resources.Â
- Strong digital literacy including MS Office and case management systems.Â
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.Â
- Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving abilities.Â

- Based on the New Avenues Linguistic Rating Scale (A+ to C-)Â

Personal Suitability/Other Requirements
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for travel to off-site locations.Â
- Monday to Friday days with some flexibility required for occasion Thursday evenings on a rotational schedule and/or weekend days.Â
- Positively contribute to monthly individual and team Key Performance Indicator (KPIs) while managing a challenging workload through prioritization and effective time managementÂ
- Comfortable providing services in a hybrid model or in-person and virtual services from the Employment Centre or off-site locations.Â
