Planning Designer II

Job Summary

This position is responsible to the Planning Manager for design review and documentation of Small Generation Interconnection Applications in accordance with current CORE standards and the National Electrical Code. This position requires knowledge and application of electrical power system theory and generation interconnection procedures.

Receives technical direction from the Planning Manager regarding definite objectives and established goals. The employee plans and manages own work after those goals are established. Accuracy, promptness, follow-up, and completeness of assignments are essential.

Regular contact with contractors, members, inspectors and other CORE departments is required to furnish or obtain information as well as to give technical guidance in accordance with CORE standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs design review for small generation interconnection applications.
• Reviews and gives feedback on application documents to include application form entries, one-line diagrams, site diagrams, equipment drawings, calculations and outlines of required work.
• Responsible for document control of assigned projects.
• Takes action, where possible, to improve efficiency and productivity in performing job tasks and duties.
• Assists with technical questions about CORE interconnection standards, procedures, and policies.
• Evaluates distribution system hosting capacity and feasibility of small generation interconnection requests.
• Prepares reports for the Engineering department or regulatory agencies when necessary.

Minimum Qualifications of Position

• High school diploma or equivalent plus four years of specialized training or work experience in the electrical field is required.
• Must have a good understanding of basic mathematics, algebra, electrical theory, and construction practices.
• Work experience should include use of electrical drawings and basic electrical calculations.
• Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code.
• Must be knowledgeable in computers, spreadsheets, and word processing.
• Must maintain a valid Colorado Driver’s license.
• Must have good written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications of Position

• Experience using the NISC iVUE system.
• Experience with creating and maintaining PowerClerk forms.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

• Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally.  If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
• The worker is subject to both environmental conditions: Activities occur inside and outside. Physical demands may also include walking or hiking on all types of terrain and driving a vehicle for extended periods of time.
