Job Description:

The WAE Data Analyst 1 will provide data science, bioinformatics, machine learning, and computational research support for the LSU Division of Biotechnology and Molecular Medicine (BioMMed). This part-time position will support faculty, research staff, postdoctoral researchers, graduate students, and trainees in the application of computational and data-driven approaches to biomedical and translational research. The Data Analyst will assist with the organization, analysis, interpretation, and visualization of biomedical datasets; support the development and implementation of machine learning workflows; coordinate computational resources and data science activities; and contribute to research, training, grant, and collaborative initiatives involving BioMMed and its associated programs and core facilities.

Job Responsibilities:  

 40%- Data Science, Machine Learning & Bioinformatics Support:
Provide data science and computational support for biomedical and translational research projects.
Assist with data preprocessing, quality assessment, statistical analysis, visualization, and interpretation of complex biomedical datasets.
Support analysis of genomic, transcriptomic, sequencing, imaging, clinical, and other biomedical datasets, as applicable and Support integration and analysis of data generated through BioMMed research cores and collaborating laboratories

20%- Research Project & Collaborative Support:
Coordinate data science and ML activities across BioMMed-supported research projects and collaborative initiatives.
Work with faculty investigators and research personnel to translate research questions into appropriate computational analyses.
Track data science project requests, priorities, progress, deliverables, and completion.

Facilitate communication between investigators, laboratory personnel, computational staff, and collaborators.

15%- Manuscript & Scientific Communication Support:
Contribute technical descriptions of analytical methods, computational resources, workflows, and data management approaches.
Assist with generation of preliminary analyses, figures, tables, and other supporting materials for proposals and manuscripts.

Support documentation of BioMMed data science capabilities, research outcomes, usage, and collaborative activities.

15%- Training, Education & User Support:
Assist in developing workshops, tutorials, training materials, computational notebooks, and other educational resources.
Provide consultation and troubleshooting support for researchers using BioMMed computational resources and analytical workflows.

10%- Computational Resource Coordination & Documentation:
Maintain documentation of analytical workflows, scripts, computational resources, datasets, and project activities.
Promote reproducibility, appropriate data organization, version control, and research data-management practices.
Perform other data science and computational research-related duties as assigned in support of BioMMed's research, training, and service missions.

Minimum Qualifications: 

 Bachelor's degree.

Preferred Qualifications: 

 Master's degree; and 2+ years of experience in advanced training in Data Science, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Statistics, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field, with demonstrated experience in data analysis, statistical computing, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and bioinformatics applied to biomedical or life-science research. Experience with high-performance computing (HPC), cloud computing, and the analysis of genomic, transcriptomic, sequencing, imaging, and other high-dimensional datasets, including data processing, visualization, interpretation, and advanced statistical methods.
