Title: Senior Quality Engineer Supplier, Korea

Travel: Up to 75%, mainly supplier facilities in South Korea; occasional international travel

Position summary

ON.energy is looking for a skilled Supplier Quality Engineer to lead supplier quality activities for our Korean supply base of battery energy storage systems (BESS) and power equipment. You will work closely with Engineering, Supply Chain, Construction, and the Product Quality Engineer, Korea to select, audit, and evaluate suppliers of batteries, PCS/inverters, transformers, switchgear and ATS, control cabinets, and auxiliary systems.

This role focuses on preventing quality issues at the source – ensuring suppliers maintain robust manufacturing and test processes – and driving lasting corrective action when issues occur. It is best suited for engineers with hands-on experience working with manufacturing suppliers of electrical or industrial equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Drive supplier selection, evaluation, and qualification based on the company's Supplier Quality processes and tools.
• Collaborate with Engineering and Supply Chain to qualify new vendors and support supplier onboarding.
• Support the definition and documentation of Supplier Quality processes in compliance with ISO 9001 and other applicable requirements.
• Perform supplier process audits at new and existing vendors to evaluate manufacturing processes, production controls, and supplier quality systems in alignment with company standards and ISO 9001 requirements.
• Ensure all activities related to the Supplier Audit process are properly maintained and executed, including audit planning and reporting documentation.
• Evaluate supplier manufacturing processes, control plans, process risk assessments (PFMEA), and first article inspection records to ensure suppliers can consistently meet technical and quality requirements.
• Review and approve supplier quality documentation, including Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), FAT procedures, control plans, and quality control documentation packages.
• Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) at OEMs for new suppliers, new product introductions, or suspected process issues, together with the Product Quality Engineer.
• Manage supplier-related quality issues: guide root-cause analysis (8D, 5 Why) on NCRs, and drive corrective actions and process improvements that are effective and sustainable.
• Review and validate supplier material traceability records, certificates, and inspection reports.
• Update the supplier quality database (Documents Control).
• Provide supplier performance feedback and input to quality metrics and supplier scorecards.
• Support development and continuous improvement of quality standards, templates, and best practices across equipment types, and share lessons learned to prevent repeat issues.

Must have qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, or Quality Engineering (or a closely related technical field), or equivalent hands-on experience with electrical equipment and systems in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• 3–7 years of experience in supplier or product quality engineering within the energy or manufacturing industry.
• Hands-on experience with electrical power systems, BESS, inverters, transformers, switchgear, or similar equipment.
• Experience with supplier process audits, including evaluating supplier manufacturing processes (VDA 6.3 or similar process audit frameworks are a plus).
• Working knowledge of quality management systems (ISO 9001) and manufacturing quality tools (8D, SPC, PFMEA, control plans, FAI / PPAP).
• Familiarity with relevant codes and standards (IEEE 1547, UL 9540/9540A, IEC, ISO 9001, NEC) and general equipment test protocols, plus KS/KC standards used by Korean suppliers.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a practical understanding of manufacturing processes.
• Professional working proficiency in Korean and English, including technical discussions and written audit reports.
• Willingness to travel up to 75% to vendor locations (domestic and international) and project sites.
• Excellent communication and documentation abilities; capable of interfacing effectively with suppliers and cross-functional teams.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience with Tier 1 energy equipment manufacturers, including Korean OEMs.
• CQE (Certified Quality Engineer) and ISO 9001 Lead Auditor certification.
• Korean national technical licenses such as 전기기사 (Electrical Engineer) or 품질경영기사 (Quality Management Engineer).
• Familiarity with quality management tools, NCR tracking tools, and dashboard reporting.
• Experience supporting supplier quality activities during New Product Introduction (NPI).

• 엔지니어링·구매팀과 신규 협력사 승인 및 온보딩 지원
• ISO 9001 및 관련 요구사항에 부합하는 협력사 품질 프로세스 정의 및 문서화 지원
• 신규 및 기존 협력사 공정 심사 수행 (제조 공정, 생산 관리, 품질시스템을 회사 기준 및 ISO 9001에 따라 평가)
• 심사 계획 및 보고서 등 협력사 심사 프로세스 전반의 문서 관리 및 실행
• 협력사 제조 공정, 관리계획서, 공정 리스크 평가(PFMEA), 초도품 검사(FAI) 기록을 평가하여 기술·품질 요구사항의 지속적 충족 여부 확인
• ITP, FAT 절차서, 관리계획서, 품질관리 문서 패키지 등 협력사 품질 문서 검토 및 승인
• 신규 협력사, 신제품 도입(NPI), 공정 문제 의심 시 Product Quality Engineer와 함께 OEM FAT 참여
• 협력사 품질 문제 관리: NCR에 대한 근본원인 분석(8D, 5 Why) 지도 및 효과적·지속 가능한 시정조치와 공정 개선 주도

자격 요건

• 전기, 기계, 산업, 품질공학 또는 관련 분야 학사 이상, 또는 제조·산업 환경에서의 전기 설비 및 시스템 동등 실무 경력
• 에너지 또는 제조 산업 내 협력사 또는 제품 품질 엔지니어링 경력 3–7년
• 전력 시스템, BESS, 인버터, 변압기, 개폐기 또는 유사 설비 실무 경험
• 협력사 제조 공정 평가를 포함한 공정 심사 경험 (VDA 6.3 등 공정 심사 프레임워크 경험 우대)
