Impact In This Role

At Fictiv, we are building the world's premier platform for hardware manufacturing. As an Associate Solutions Engineer, you will support our critical quoting and manufacturability functions, working at the interface between our two sets of customers — the builders who order parts through us, and the manufacturing partners who make them.

In this role you will learn to review the manufacturability and cost of parts submitted by our builders across processes such as CNC machining and 3D printing. Under the guidance of senior Solutions Engineers, you will apply your Mechanical Engineering background to interpret designs, prepare accurate quotes for custom parts, and flag design considerations that affect cost, quality, and lead time. Your work helps bring products to market faster and directly supports Fictiv's growth.
You will report to a Team Lead within Solutions Engineering, who will support your development from guided execution toward independent ownership of quoting and DFM work.

What You’ll Be Doing

Quoting Support
Prepare cost estimates for standard and moderately complex CNC machining and other manufacturing parts, combining your analysis with Fictiv's software recommendations.
Escalate complex geometries, non-standard processes, or challenging timelines to senior Solutions Engineers or High Touch (HT) quoting.
Use platform tools to automate portions of the quoting process for speed and accuracy.

Design for Manufacturability (DFM)
Perform DFM reviews on straightforward parts to highlight risks and suggest design or process adjustments, with guidance on more complex cases.
Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and material requirements to assess feasibility.

Technical Support & Learning
Build knowledge of machining, finishing, and assembly processes and their cost drivers.
Learn region-specific manufacturing considerations across the US, India, China, and Mexico.

Customer Engagement
Communicate with customers on routine clarifications and provide clear, timely updates during quoting.
Support senior engineers in explaining trade-offs between cost, lead time, and quality.

Cross-functional Collaboration
Work with internal teams (Sales, Operations, Sourcing, Quality & Logistics) to keep projects moving.
Provide feedback to the quoting software team to help improve the accuracy of automated quoting.

Documentation
Assist in generating clear 2D drawings per ANSI/ASME Y14.5 standards and maintain accurate records of your quoting analysis.

Desired Traits

Experience & Education
1–2 years of hands-on experience in manufacturing, quoting, design, or a related engineering function (internships and co-ops count).
4-year Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent technical training.
Working familiarity with CNC machining and 3D printing is required; exposure to additional processes (sheet metal, urethane casting, injection molding, etc.) is a plus.
Understanding of GD&T and conventional (coordinate) tolerancing.
Working knowledge of the manufacturability and limitations of common metals and plastics.
