At BETA Technologies, we apply our intellectual curiosity, passion for aviation, and commitment to sustainability toward a shared mission of revolutionizing electric aviation. Regardless of the position one holds, each team member brings their talent and desire to positively impact the environment and lives of others in a refreshing, vibrant, and inclusive culture.
We are seeking a Senior Power Systems Engineer to join the Battery team and own the high voltage protection system for ouraircraft—from first-principles analysis through full-scale testing totype-certifiedaircraft. You will adapt coordination models to new configurations, build andmaintain fault analysis models foraircraft-level integration, design efficient test campaigns, analyze test data tovalidate and refine predictions, and summarize findings in reportssubmitted to certification authorities. This position requires a blend of knowledge in electrical engineering, system modeling, test design, and data analysis.AsSenior Power Systems Engineer, you will go deep on a single critical system—high voltage protection— that is essential to helping shape the future of aviation.Â
How you will contribute to revolutionizing electric aviation:- Develop and maintain the fuse coordination and fault protection models that define how our HV system behaves under every credible faultÂ
- Design and execute full-scale protection tests — spec DAQ hardware, run the test, and use the data to challenge and refine your modelsÂ
- Build battery and protection models that integrate with aircraft-level simulations —enabling system trades grounded in validated physicsÂ
- Partner with the high voltage team on mechanical design — translating insights from the fuse coordination modeling and testing to the aircraft designÂ
- Collaborate across software, electrical, and systems engineering to support certification effortsÂ
- Do whatever job is needed to solve problems and make the team betterÂ
- PhD or Master’s +5 years relevant experience in electrical engineering, physics, or a related fieldÂ
- 5+ years of experience with building and validating models of real-world systems in MATLAB / Simulink or PythonÂ
- Familiarity with power systems and high voltage system protections, both active and passiveÂ
- Contributions to HV system design in the EV or other HVDC applicationsÂ
- Ability to synthesize large, complex data sets into actionable engineering insightsÂ
- Hands-on experience designing data acquisition systems — selecting sample rates, resolution, filtering, and instrumentation to capture the physics that mattersÂ
- Skill in design of experiments —detailing efficient test matrices that validate models with minimal testing and maximum learningÂ
- Ability to diagnose model-to-hardware discrepancies — using test data to identify what's missing, what's wrong, and what needs refinementÂ
- Prior work with aviation certification standards (e.g. ARP 4754 / ARP 4761) or work in other safety-critical environmentsÂ
- Experience modeling and system identification of real-world systems in MATLAB and SimulinkÂ
- Communication with DAQ devices, data manipulation and storageÂ
- Ability to transport yourself to various BETA locations around Burlington as neededÂ
- Able to work in a dog-friendly and open-office environmentÂ
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate with multidisciplinary teamsÂ
- Growth mindset and initiative to own problems, iterate quickly, and deliver practical solutionsÂ
- Desire to learn, experiment, and make others around you betterÂ
