The Director, Rules and Competitions reports to the Senior Director, Masters Tournament and has responsibility for the successful conduct of professional and amateur competitions organized by Augusta National Golf Club. This role will provide support to the Competition Committees and Rules Committee Chairman, whenever applicable. The position is based in Augusta, Georgia, and requires a candidate with expert level Rules of Golf knowledge, significant experience in tournament administration, as well as established credibility and relationships with golf administrators, Rules Officials and players who compete in elite amateur and major professional championships around the world.

Job Responsibilities

  • Helps develop and implement ideas that support Augusta National’s Strategic Plan, including initiatives that elevate the Masters Tournament and the Masters Tournament Foundation’s respective championships.
  • Acts as the Augusta National staff internal subject matter expert for the Rules of Golf.
  • Leads Masters Tournament and Augusta National Women’s Amateur Rules preparations. This includes, but is not limited to, the creation and regular updating of Rules Committee documents, communications and other competition planning (Notice To Players, Hard Card, Suspension and Resumption Procedures, Course Marking Guide, Pace of Play Policy, Timing Sheets, Player Scoring Procedures, Rules Review, Code of Conduct, etc.).
  • Supports the Cup and Tee Committee with matters relating to course setup.
  • Assists the Chairman of the Rules Committee during the Masters Tournament and Women’s Amateur in matters related to Rules administration, including, but not limited to, Rules Review, Rules Incident Management, Pace of Play Management, Code of Conduct, Committee Communication, Committee Assignments, Suspension and Resumption Planning, Equipment and Drug Testing, Rules Meetings, etc.
  • Helps lead the Rules and Competition administration for the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship and Latin America Amateur Championship.
  • Represents Augusta National Golf Club on Rules Committees at other elite amateur and professional championships, when invited to participate.
  • Attends PGA/USGA Rules of Golf Workshops; Achieves Expert Rules certification annually.
  • Develops and implements educational programs to enhance the understanding of the Rules among Tournament Officials and volunteers with direct impact to the Competition.
  • Leads internal Rules education efforts for Tournament and Golf Professional staff.
  • Acts as a conduit between the Club and Masters Tournament Invitees regarding overall player experience. Works closely with the Director, Tournament Operations to ensure exceptional operational execution, especially as it relates to player services.
  • Supports the Senior Director, Masters Tournament in the management of the budget process and is a responsible financial steward for the Club.
  • Participates in Club leadership programs; attends seminars for continued professional growth and development.
  • Performs other duties which are deemed by management to be an important part of the job.

Physical Demands

  • Acceptable level of hearing and vision to perform job duties.
  • Occasionally required to walk and work with hands and arms, lift up to 25 pounds and/or drive a golf cart.
  • Constantly required to sit, sometimes for several hours at a time, and use their hands and fingers to operate a computer.

Qualifications

     Skills/Knowledge/Attributes

  • Exceptional knowledge and application of the Rules of Golf
  • Expert Rules certification from the USGA / R&A Rules of Golf
  • Established credibility for applying the Rules in various tournament settings, including elite amateur and major professional championships
  • Existing relationships with golf administrators and players, both at the amateur and professional level
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to manage and lead a team of Rules officials effectively
  • Exceptional communicator, both written and verbal
  • Ability to handle high-pressure situations and make sound decisions quickly
  • Ability to multitask with high attention for detail

Relative Experience/Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 8+ years experience in a similar role within the golf industry
  • 2+ years of progressive leadership experience

Required License(s)

  • Possess a valid driver’s license and/or successfully completes the Club’s internal motor vehicle training program
  • Possess a valid passport permitting travel into nations hosting major golf competitions

Projected Work Schedule

Normal work hours are 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
