Position Overview
Capital One's Developer Experience organization is seeking experienced Full Stack Software Engineers to support itsOnePipeline enterprise CI/CD platform. OnePipeline is the enterprise platform through which code is deployed to production across Capital One.
Engineers will contribute to platform development, CI/CD pipeline optimization, cloud engineering, developer productivity, automation, and AI-driven engineering initiatives. The team supports highly scalable systems and expects engineers to contribute to development, troubleshooting, operational support, and continuous improvement.
Candidates should have strong hands-on development skills, experience with modern engineering practices, and the ability to learn independently and contribute quickly in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, maintain, and optimize software components and enterprise CI/CD pipelines.
- Build automation solutions that improve developer productivity and software delivery efficiency.
- Develop backend services and applications using Java, Python, or Go, depending on the assigned workstream.
- Work with AWS services, including Lambda, DynamoDB, and Fargate.
- Use Claude Code as part of the software development lifecycle, including code investigation, development, testing, debugging, and deployment.
- Support CI/CD workflows, infrastructure automation, release governance, and deployment processes.
- Troubleshoot production issues and participate in L1/on-call and pager-duty support as required.
- Collaborate with engineering, platform, and application teams to improve reliability, scalability, performance, and developer experience.
- Follow secure coding, testing, code quality, and modern DevOps best practices.
- Take ownership of assigned deliverables and demonstrate the ability to learn new technologies independently.
- Strong hands-on software development experience withJava, Python, and/or Go.
- Experience with AWS cloud services, particularly Lambda, DynamoDB, and Fargate.
- Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines, build automation, testing, and deployment.
- Experience with Git and modern software development practices.
- Familiarity withAI-assisted development tools.
- Hands-on experience with Claude Code is mandatory for all workstreams.
- Strong problem-solving, debugging, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and contribute in a fast-paced engineering environment.
Specialized Workstreams
Candidates will be considered for one of five workstreams based on their technical strengths and relevant experience.
1. DevOps Compliance Registry – Blade Learner – Java, Devops, Claude
- Primarily Java-based development.
- Build and maintain components supporting DevOps compliance and registry capabilities.
- Focus on scalability, performance, and platform reliability.
- Suitable for full stack engineers with strong Java and backend development experience.
- Work with Spotify Backstage and its plugin architecture.
- Develop and maintain release-related plugins and developer platform capabilities.
- Familiarity with React, micro-frontends (MFE), backend-for-frontend (BFF) patterns, and platform contribution models is preferred.
- Prior Backstage experience is highly desirable.
- Build AI-powered solutions to improve developer support and reduce L1/L2 support workloads.
- Use Python and potentially Java to develop automation, integrations, and AI-driven workflows.
- Apply Claude Code and other AI-assisted development tools.
- Understand LLM fundamentals, including retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), non-RAG approaches, token optimization, and AI guardrails.
- Experience building bots, AI agents, or LLM-powered engineering tools is preferred.
- Optimize CI/CD pipelines supporting Capital One's large-scale EASE platform.
- Improve build efficiency, deployment speed, release governance, and developer productivity.
- Work with large monorepositories and complex platform pipelines.
- Angular and TypeScript experience is highly desirable, particularly for release-governance portals.
- Candidates should understand how to optimize pipelines rather than focus solely on building customer-facing application features.
- Support CI/CD pipelines for iOS and Android applications.
- Understand mobile development practices and the process of building, signing, packaging, and releasing application binaries to app stores.
- Experience with mobile build automation, release management, and deployment pipelines is preferred.
- Prior iOS or Android development experience is a strong advantage.
- Previous Capital One experience, particularly with OnePipeline or the relevant platform, is beneficial but not mandatory.
- Experience in developer experience (DevEx), platform engineering, DevOps, or cloud-native engineering.
- Demonstrated ability to learn unfamiliar technologies quickly.
- Strong GitHub portfolio or repository demonstrating meaningful, hands-on contributions.
- Experience working in enterprise-scale engineering environments.
- Candidates must be comfortable with the hybrid work arrangement at the McLean, VA office.
- Candidates should be self-driven, proactive, and capable of contributing with limited onboarding support.
- Previous Capital One candidates should include their prior engagement manager and employee ID (EID), if available, to help the hiring manager review relevant experience and contributions.
- Candidates should clearly identify their strongest technical workstream in their resume or submission summary.
