Thamma Raksa Project | PUR

PUR is looking for an experiencedSustainable Forest Management Consultant to support the development of a comprehensiveSustainable Forest Management Plan (SFMP) for theThamma Raksa Project in Isaan, Thailand.

The project focuses on agroforestry and small-scale forest plantations across several provinces in Northeast Thailand. The consultant will develop practical forest management, selective harvesting, post-harvesting and farmer training approaches that support long-term forest health, carbon storage and farmer needs.

About the Assignment

The main objective of this consultancy is to develop apractical and comprehensive Sustainable Forest Management Plan aligned with:

• Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) Version 5.0

• VM0047

• ABACUS Label

• Symbiosis Quality Criteria

The plan will cover different planting models, tree species and ecological and socio-economic contexts across Isaan, Thailand.

Key Responsibilities

The consultant will be responsible for:

• Developing the Sustainable Forest Management Plan for the Thamma Raksa project.

• Developing appropriatemaintenance practices, including pruning, thinning, weeding and pest management.

• Developing guidelines forselective harvesting, including tree selection, harvesting volumes, timing and methods.

• Conductingtree growth, biomass and harvesting analysis to support harvesting schedules and carbon-stock projections.

• Developing recommendations forpost-harvesting management, replanting and natural regeneration.

• Considering Thailand's forestry regulations, land tenure and socio-economic context.

• Developing a practicalmonitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) framework.

• Supporting farmer engagement and developing practical training materials.

• Translating technical recommendations into practical guidance for farmers and field implementation partners.

Key Deliverables

The consultancy will include:

1. Sustainable Forest Management Plan – English, Word and PDF

2. Farmer-friendly summaries – English and Thai

3. Harvesting Schedule & Biomass Growth Impact Dataset – Excel

4. Farmer Training Modules covering:

   • Site maintenance

   • Selective harvesting

   • Post-harvesting activities

Required Qualifications & Experience

We are looking for a consultant with:

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Forestry, Agroforestry or a related field.

• Minimum 5 years of demonstrated experience developing forest management plans, particularly for small-scale and/or community-based forestry projects.

• Professional experience inThailand or Southeast Asia in forestry, agroforestry or natural resource management.

• Experience working oncarbon projects, particularly Verra/VCS, Gold Standard or similar standards.

• Familiarity withThailand's forestry policies, land tenure systems and socio-economic context.

• Experience withstakeholder engagement and participatory planning.

• Strong experience inselective harvesting, harvesting volume estimation and tree growth analysis.

• Strong analytical and report-writing skills.

• Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.

• Proficiency in relevant technical software, such asGIS and statistical tools.

Consultancy Duration

Approximately 8 weeks, with the assignment commencing as soon as possible.

Key milestones include:

• Inception Report: within 7 days of contract signing

• Draft SFMP: 17 November 2026

• Harvesting & Biomass Dataset: 30 November 2026

• Final SFMP, summaries and training modules: 5 January 2027
