HX5 is currently seeking an IT Specialist to join our team in Brook Park, Ohio in support of the GEARS contract at NASA Glenn Research Center.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

The Equipment & IT Support Specialist provides critical support to the Safety and Health Division at NASA Glenn Research Center (GRC). This role is responsible for managing equipment calibration programs, maintaining electronic record systems, performing risk assessments, and supporting key IT security and configuration activities. The position ensures that divisional equipment remains compliant, functional, and accurately documented while also contributing to the security and efficiency of safety-related IT systems. 

Key Responsibilities 

Equipment Management
• Coordinate all calibration and repair services for Safety and Health Division equipment and instruments, including processing RMAs, managing vendor shipments, and updating the Metrology Recall System.
• Interface with the Metrology team to upload and maintain current calibration documentation on the GRC Metrology website.
• Maintain calibration records for medical services equipment.
• Manage calibration information within the Electronic Health Record System (EHRS) equipment module.
• Conduct comprehensive risk assessments for all occupational health equipment—including industrial hygiene, health physics, medical, and fitness assets—evaluating age, usage, functionality, and replacement cost. Identify lifecycle replacements and develop replacement recommendations.

IT-Related Responsibilities
• Maintain and update security configurations for GRC Safety and Mission Assurance network share areas, including supporting appropriate access and resource provisioning.
• Revise, maintain, and track compliance for the GRC Safety and Mission Assurance IT Security Plan, including requirements for offline computers.
• Prepare and submit monthly reports on progress, compliance status, issues, and delays related to the IT Security Plan.

Required Skills:

• Experience with equipment calibration programs, metrology systems, or laboratory instrumentation management.
• Working knowledge of electronic record systems such as Electronic Health Record Systems (EHRS) or similar documentation platforms.
• Strong understanding of IT security principles, including network permissions, configuration management, and compliance documentation.
• Familiarity with NASA centers, Safety and Mission Assurance (SMA) organizations, or federal calibration/IT security standards.
• Ability to analyze equipment lifecycles, perform risk assessments, and develop data-driven replacement recommendations.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel, SharePoint, and Teams.
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, vendors, and documentation requirements simultaneously.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with technical teams, IT security personnel, and program managers.
• Ability to troubleshoot technical issues related to equipment, software installations, and system configurations.
 

Desired Skills:

  • Experience working with NASA
  • Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate, audit‑ready records.

Education/Experience:

  • Master's degree and five years of relevant experience
  • Bachelor's degree with five to ten 10 or more years of relevant experience
  • High School Diploma and a minimum of 20 years' experience.

Other Position Requirements:

  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.
