IT Software Engineer 4

Varmoda is seeking an experienced IT Software Engineer 4 for a 12-month hybrid engagement in Peoria, IL. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience in Java, AWS, Microservices, RESTful APIs, Agile/Scrum, cloud technologies, and CI/CD,responsible for designing, developing, testing, integrating, deploying, and supporting complex software applications and cloud-based solutions. This position requires the ability to work independently on complex technical assignments while also providing technical guidance and mentoring to other team members.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, debug, deploy, and maintain complex software applications and system components.
• Participate as a member of an Agile/Scrum development team.
• Develop scalable applications and services using Java and AWS.
• Design and implement Microservices and RESTful APIs.
• Develop and maintain cloud-based solutions utilizing AWS services.
• Perform software integration, system administration, configuration, and customization activities.
• Develop complex system modules and applications based on business and technical requirements.
• Perform integration testing and support customer acceptance testing.
• Troubleshoot complex application and technical issues and implement appropriate solutions.
• Support relational and NoSQL databases and related data-driven applications.
• Implement and maintain software through CI/CD pipelines.
• Review database modifications, database management systems, and technical requirements.
• Support implementation of security measures designed to safeguard information and systems.
• Assist with installation, testing, and implementation of new products and system enhancements.
• Develop technical standards, documentation, and guidelines.
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to team members.
• Support applications and systems as necessary, including occasional off-shift or weekend support.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with 8+ years of software development experience; OR
• Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field with at least 6 years of relevant software development experience.
• 8+ years of experience designing and developing software applications in Java, or 6+ years with a relevant master's degree.
• Minimum 3 years of hands-on AWS development experience.
• Strong experience with: Java, AWS, Microservices, RESTful APIs, Agile / Scrum, Cloud application development, CI/CD, Relational and NoSQL databases.
• Experience designing, developing, deploying, and maintaining software applications at scale.
• Strong understanding of software development lifecycle principles.
• Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, system analysis, testing, debugging, and application architecture.
• Experience with Generative AI (GenAI) for software development.
• Ability to work independently and troubleshoot complex technical issues.
• Strong technical leadership and mentoring abilities.

AWS / Cloud Skills

Hands-on experience with AWS technologies, including:

• AWS CloudFormation
• ECS
• AWS Lambda
• AWS Fargate
• Amazon Elasticsearch / OpenSearch
• Amazon S3
• IAM roles and policies
• AWS SQS
• AWS SNS
• Amazon Kinesis

Experience with public cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP is required, with strong AWS experience preferred.
