This position is responsible for:

The Intake Coordinator for White Flagplays a critical role in preparing and leading intake of overnight White Flag participants at The Salvation Army shelter sites.   The coordinator is the key hospitality representative who will uphold and enforce the rules – thereby ensuring a safe, structured, predictable environment for guests and staff.   The Intake Coordinator will be supported by the shelter manager and other staff in this role.  The Intake Coordinator conducts intakes, bag checks, storage of medicines and prohibited weapons, communicates with community partner agencies regarding intake status, ensures the successful set-up of overflow facilities as needed, communicates and cooperates well with volunteers and staff. The Intake Coordinator conducts morning discharge, oversees the successful cleaning of White Flag space into conversion back to cafeteria space, and returns guest items.  The Intake Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that White Flag records and incident reports are conducted thoroughly, accurately, and in accordance with standards of compliance and confidentiality. 

A structured schedule with flexibility includes the possibility of morning shifts, 6 am – 8:30 am, and evening shifts 5:30 pm – 9 pm and 5:30 pm – 12 am, based on weather conditions and shelter needs.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Conducts intakes, bag checks, storage of medicines and prohibited weapons, communicates with community partner agencies regarding intake status, ensures the successful set-up of overflow facilities as needed, communicates and cooperates well with volunteers and staff.

 

  • Records any unique situations occurring on assigned shifts. Completes incident reports as needed. Calls for advice and assistance to the overnight on-call staff person, if the staff on-site would benefit from support.

 

  • Answers the phone professionally, providing information from the SA script and refraining from engaging in conversation, speculation and opinion-sharing.

 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Physical Requirements:

Ability to meet attendance requirements.

Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.

Ability to respond to emergencies quickly and calmly while maintaining control and initiating proper corrective action.

Ability to perform combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis.  Distance of travel is usually within the same building.

Limited physical effort is required for walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed in a housing shelter where physical discomforts may be associated with temperature variations, odors, violence, noise, disease, and/or dust under mildly unsafe and uncomfortable conditions.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR IN YOU

High school diploma or G.E.D.

AND

One year experience performing security or social service work preferred,

OR

Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

 

 

Licenses and Certifications:

Valid Driver’s License Required
