Insurance Defence Lawyer

Our client is a well-established and respected litigation boutique based in Toronto with a strong reputation in insurance defence. The firm represents leading insurers and institutional clients across a broad range of litigation matters and is known for its collaborative environment, strong mentorship culture, and commitment to professional development.

Due to continued growth, the firm is seeking an Insurance Defence Associate Lawyer to join its litigation team. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated lawyer who is looking to take ownership of files while working closely with experienced litigators on complex matters.

The successful candidate will manage a portfolio of insurance defence files and play a key role in supporting senior partners on complex litigation matters. This position offers significant autonomy and hands-on experience handling matters from inception through resolution, including both Accident Benefits (AB) and Tort litigation.

You will work within a collegial team environment while developing strong client relationships and advancing your litigation practice.

• Independently manage Accident Benefits and Tort files from intake through resolution

• Draft pleadings, motion materials, written advocacy, and settlement documentation

• Conduct discoveries, mediations, and pre-trial preparation

• Appear before courts, tribunals, and mediators as required

• Collaborate with senior partners on complex or high-value litigation matters

• Maintain strong relationships with insurer clients and provide strategic litigation advice

• Manage file strategy, timelines, and reporting obligations

• Work closely with legal assistants and internal support staff to ensure efficient file management

• Competitive salary: $125,000 – $150,000

• Demonstrated experience handling Accident Benefits and Tort files

• Ability to manage files independently from inception to conclusion

• Strong advocacy, drafting, and analytical skills

• Experience attending examinations for discovery, mediations, and motions

• Excellent communication and client-management skills

• Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
