Position Overview
Established through grant funding in 2022, the Center for Public Safety Leadership (CPSL) brings the resources of KLETC and KU together to develop and implement leadership training programs intended to support a person from the time they enter a leadership position until they achieve senior leadership as a chief or sheriff. In addition, the CPSL supports each level of leadership with a certificate program, as well as other professional development courses. The CPSL has locations at the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center campus located near Hutchinson, KS and on the University of Kansas’ Edwards Campus in Overland Park.ÂKLETC serves as the central agency for all law enforcement training in the State of Kansas. KLETC manages a $12 million annual budget, 65 authorized staff (augmented by more than 400 contract/adjunct staff annually), and trains nearly 15,000 students annually in residential, online, and outreach programs. KLETC serves 437 recognized law enforcement and police agencies in Kansas, providing basic training and continuing education programs throughout each fiscal year.Â

The Temp Worker is responsible for development of curriculum and learning objectives for instruction and other tasks, duties and assignments as directed which are related to the instructional mission of the CPSL. The Temp Worker assists in and/or is responsible for the instruction of officers participating in any CPSL programs.

Job Description
60% Responsible for the instruction of officers in the CPSL programs.- Utilizes diverse instructional methodologies based on proven adult learning principles while presenting and incorporating classroom and practical, scenario-based performance outcome training classes.
- Attends advanced training classes, courses, seminars and workshops to stay abreast of the latest information, techniques, methods and strategies of contemporary law enforcement operations related to assigned fields of instruction.
- Research, develops and evaluates practical application training exercises related to leadership and supervisory courses.
30% Responsible for the development of curricula, learning objectives, lesson plans and handout reference material for the different programs course of instruction(s).
- Designs and develops the curriculum by creating learning objectives, lesson plans, and other instructional support documents based on research and surveys.
- Regularly reviews current curriculum to assess and analyze validity.
- Initiates curriculum content changes based on law statute changes, court decisions or research.
10% Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an institution accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.
- Effective written communications skills as evident in application materials.

Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree specifically in adult education or an academic discipline related to law enforcement from an institution accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, as evidenced by application materials.
- Post-bachelor’s degree, or progress toward such degree, in an academic discipline related to adult education or law enforcement from an institution accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, as evidenced by application materials.Â
- Experience in the training, education and/or instruction of adults, as evidenced by application materials.
- Experience as a law enforcement instructor in a law enforcement training academy or college setting, as evidenced by application materials.
