Job Summary

The Injury Prevention Coordinator plays a critical role in advancing the mission of Denver Health by developing, implementing, and evaluating comprehensive injury prevention programs and initiatives. This position is responsible for reducing the incidence and severity of injuries within the community through evidence-based strategies, community engagement, professional education, and advocacy. The coordinator leverages trauma registry date to identify key injury mechanisms and vulnerable populations, translating data into actionable prevention efforts.

This experienced coordinator independently manages and evaluates established injury prevention programs, develops targeted interventions based on data, and actively builds community partnerships while mentoring Level I staff and contributing to strategic planning.

Essential Functions:

  • Program Management and Evaluation including independently planning, implementing, and evaluating evidence-based injury prevention aligned with Denver Health priorities, utilizing trauma registry data to identify specific injury trends and populations, developing and refining program curricula and education materials, and measuring program effectiveness and reporting outcomes. (35%)
  • Community Partnership and Outreach including establishing and maintaining strong collaborative relationships with community organizations, schools, law enforcement, and other stakeholders., serving as primary contact for injury prevention inquiries and partnerships, representing Denver Health at community events and professional forums, and advocating for policy and environmental changes that promote injury prevention. (30%)
  • Professional Education and Advocacy including delivering professional education to healthcare providers, EMS, and other key groups on injury prevention best practices, keeping abreast of current research and emerging trends in injury prevention, and participating in local, regional, and state-level prevention committees. (20%)
  • Data Analysis and Reporting including conducting in-depth analysis of trauma registry data to identify patterns, risk factors, and areas for intervention, and preparing comprehensive reports on injury prevention activities and outcomes for internal and external stakeholders. (10%)
  • Mentorship including providing guidance and support to level I injury prevention coordinators and/or interns (5%)


Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree Public Health or Health Education Required


Work Experience:

  • 1-3 years of progressive experience in injury prevention, public health, or a trauma/emergency care setting with demonstrated experience in program planning, implementation, and evaluation. Required


Licenses:

  • BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association or American Red Cross


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • In-depth understanding of injury epidemiology, risk factors, and prevention strategies, comprehensive knowledge of American College of Surgeons (ACS) verification requirements related to injury prevention, familiarity with grant writing and funding opportunities for prevention programs, and understanding of legislative processes impacting injury prevention.
  • Proven ability to design, implement, and evaluate public health programs, strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and translate it into actionable strategies, excellent public speaking and presentation skills, proficiency in data visualization and reporting tools, and effective negotiation and consensus-building skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously, demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships, proactive and innovative approach to problem-solving, and capacity to influence behavior change at individual and community levels.
