Performs tests on blood and body fluids to provide information for diagnosing and combating disease. Works independently with moderate supervision from a Medical Technologist Supervisor or the Director of Laboratory Operations. May be assigned to work in a specialized section within the department.
Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory/medical technology scienceand ASCP (or equivalent) certification in one or more specialty areas of the laboratory.Or, Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory/medical technology scienceand completion of an AMA approved laboratory training program and eligible for ASCP certification.Or, completion of an approved government training program and eligible for ASCP certification
Verbal communication skills required to interact with other hospital personnel
Writing skills and computer aptitude required to document test results and prepare reports of daily work
Must be able to stand for long periods
Must be available to rotate shifts and work weekends and holidays
All technologists must meet the CLIA ’88 requirements for the complexity level of work performed
