And now, we are on the lookout forManager - Underwriting, who can manage day-to-day operations of a team of underwriters/QC analysts,to perform comprehensive QC reviews on closed residential mortgage loans across multiple loan types while ensuring strict compliance with agency, investor, and regulatory guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
Team & People Management
- Manage day-to-day operations of a team of underwriters/QC analysts
- Hire, onboard, and train new underwriters; build and maintain training curriculum
- Conduct coaching, performance reviews, and calibration sessions to ensure consistent underwriting/QC decisions across the team
- Manage rosters, shift planning, and capacity against pipeline volume
Underwriting & QC Oversight
- Review and approve/escalate complex or exception-based loan files across VA, FHA, and Conventional products
- Personally audit and validate post-closing QC reviews — including income, assets, credit, collateral, compliance, and closing documentation — to confirm findings are accurate and properly root-caused
- Serve as the final point of escalation for underwriting/QC deficiency findings and disputes
- Ensure full-file QC reviews (pre- and post-closing) comply with agency, investor, and federal/state regulatory guidelines
- Own team-level SLAs: quality accuracy rate, turnaround time (TAT), rework/error rate, and QC defect rate
- Support and drive Corrective Action / Preventive Action (CAPA) initiatives arising from QC findings
- Identify recurring underwriting/QC defect patterns and drive process improvement initiatives
Compliance & Governance
- Maintain 100% adherence to internal QC policies, controls, and governance standards
- Track regulatory and guideline updates (VA circulars, HUD mortgagee letters, GSE/Fannie-Freddie updates, TRID, ATR/QM) and cascade changes to the team
- Support internal, investor, and regulatory (HUD/VA) audits by providing documentation and guideline justification
- Report team metrics (productivity, quality, TAT, QC defect trends) to senior leadership
Must-Have Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (Finance, Business, or related field
- Minimum 6–8 years in US Residential Mortgage Underwriting and/or Post-Closing QC, with at least 2–3 years in a supervisory/team lead capacity
- Hands-on underwriting and post-closing QC review experience across VA, FHA, and Conventional loan types
- Strong working knowledge of:
- VA Lender's Handbook (Pamphlet 26-7)
- HUD Handbook 4000.1
- Fannie Mae Selling Guide / Freddie Mac Seller Servicer Guide
- Full loan file review — Income, Assets, Credit, Appraisal, Compliance, Closing documentation
- Experience conducting root-cause analysis on QC deficiencies and documenting findings
- DE (Direct Endorsement) Certification for FHA loans (HUD-approved), or equivalent
- VA SAR or equivalent VA underwriting authority/certification
- Experience with LOS/QC platforms: Encompass, ACES, DocMagic, Calyx, or similar
- Strong people management skills — hiring, coaching, performance management, conflict resolution
- Excellent written/verbal communication for escalations and cross-functional coordination
- Ability to operate under defined Quality and Quantity SLAs
Good-to-Have Skills
- Working knowledge of USDA, Jumbo, and Non-QM loan programs
- Familiarity with TRID, ATR/QM, ECOA, Fair Lending, and RESPA regulatory frameworks
- CMB (Certified Mortgage Banker) or similar industry certification
- Experience managing offshore/hybrid/distributed underwriting or QC teams
- Six Sigma/Lean or process-improvement background
- Experience building training/certification programs from scratch
- Data-driven mindset — comfortable with dashboards/Excel/Power BI for pipeline and QC defect reporting
- Prior experience being audited by HUD/VA or handling investor QC reviews directly
- Exposure to AI/IDP-based mortgage automation platforms (a plus given Infrrd's product context)
