JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Public Health Sciences Teaching Support Part-Time 

 

The Department of Public Health Sciences (PHS) at Penn State College of Medicine invites applications for up to five part-time teaching assistants. Courses could include the following based on candidate expertise: 

 

PHS 539: Qualitative Research Methods - Fall semester 

PHS 550: Principles of Epidemiology - Spring semester 

PHS 571: Health Services Organization & Delivery - Spring semester 

PHS 809: Principles of Public Health - Fall semester 

PHS 810: Behavioral Health Intervention Strategies - Fall semester 

 

Job Duties: 

  • Assist faculty in the facilitation of course functions i.e. lectures, online sessions, team meetings, discussion boards, etc. 

  • Attend regular classroom sessions, if applicable 

  • Evaluate assignments, papers, reports, examinations, etc. in a timely manner; provide sufficient feedback to enhance learning experience; record grades using established criteria 

  • Review class material with students 

  • Correspond with students via email, online platform, and in person in a timely manner 

  • Report any suspected academic integrity issues to the designated faculty member 

  • May maintain course Learning Management System site (CANVAS

 

The role will require up to 5 hours per week during the academic semester. 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Master's degree in a public health related field 

  • Completion of course at Penn State or a similar course at a comparable institution 

  • Good knowledge of CANVAS 

 

Compensation: 

Rate of compensation for this position is starting at $16.00 per hour.
