Respiratory Therapists at Cleveland Clinic play an integral role in making recommendationsand delivering outstanding pediatric patient care, working with physicians and nurses to provide theappropriate level of respiratory therapy for each child.Specializing in airway care and mechanical ventilation, Respiratory Therapists treat and care for children with a wide range of breathing problems, such as allergies, asthma, bronchitis, breathing disorders associated with the lungs or airway, pneumonia, and illnessesaffecting the neuromuscular or skeletal muscular cardiopulmonary system.  

 

A caregiver in this position worksPT, nights, 7:00pm – 7:30am with rotating weekend and holiday requirements.  

 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Provide assessment, treatment,care and evaluation to patients with respiratory insufficiencies.  

  • Direct respiratory caregivers for delivery of care.  

  • Implement andmonitor patient care plans.  

  • Assess patients for theappropriate type and frequency of treatment and develop,implement andmonitor patient care plans.  

  • Monitor,record and communicate patients’ conditions. 

  • Perform advanced respiratory care modalities, evaluate respiratory practice, administer medications and treatments, and perform blood gas puncture and analysis.  

  • Educate patients and families about the illness and provide information about community support groups and other programs.  

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program 

  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National BoardforRespiratory Care 

  • Ohio Respiratory Care Professional (RCP) Board Licensure 

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)Certification 

 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Priorneonatal/pediatric critical care experience  

  • Bachelor's degree inRespiratoryTherapy  

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and Neonatal Pediatric Specialist (NPS)Certifications 

Physical Requirements:

  • Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.

  • Normal hearing and vision or corrected to normal range.

  • May require sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time.

  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
