Why this role matters

At The Salvation Army, we provide specialist support to women and children impacted by family and domestic violence through accommodation, counselling, behavioural programs, crisis support, and recovery services.

Within The Orange Door, the Screening, Identification and Triage (SIT) function is the gateway to support. As a SIT Practitioner, you'll be at the heart of the service, undertaking comprehensive risk and needs assessments, responding to crisis situations, and ensuring individuals and families are connected to services that promote safety, wellbeing, accountability, and long-term change.

About the role

As a Specialist Family Violence Practitioner (SIT) with The Orange Door, you'll play a critical frontline role in identifying risk, assessing safety, and connecting victim survivors, children, families, and people using violence with the support they need. Your expertise will help ensure people receive the right response at the right time, creating safer outcomes and stronger pathways to recovery.

Reporting to the Team Leader, this is apermanent full-time opportunity, basedon-site in Morwell, VIC.

Conditions

Compensation is in accordance withSCHADS Award Levels 5-6(dependant on qualifications and experience).

How you will make an impact

• Deliver screening and triage, assessment, crisis responses, service planning, targeted interventions, allocation and coordinated referrals consistent with the Integrated Practice Framework, Operational Guidelines, Service Specifications and relevant risk assessment tools and frameworks
• Identify, assess and prioritise risk and needs of women and children, families, and perpetrators, drawing on the expertise of different practitioners in a multi-disciplinary team
• Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary Orange Door team to determine appropriate interventions
• Facilitate referrals, service allocations, brokerage requests and Central Information Point (CIP) processes
• Deliver trauma-informed, culturally safe and client-centred responses

What you'll bring

We're looking for practitioners who can confidently balance risk assessment, critical thinking and compassionate engagement. To succeed in this role, you'll have:

• An AQF Level 7 qualification (or higher) in family violence or a related discipline, or be actively working towards completion
• Qualifications aligned with the Mandatory Minimum Qualification Requirements for Specialist Family Violence Practitioners(Recommendation 209)
• Experience in family violence, community services, child wellbeing or related sectors(highly regarded)
• Strong understanding of family violence dynamics, risk assessment and safety planning
• Knowledge of trauma, its impacts, and trauma-informed practice approaches
• Excellent assessment, decision-making and referral coordination skills
• A currentVictorian Driver's Licence
• A current Victorian Employee Working with Children Check
