AboutBeeX
BeeX is building the world's most advanced Hovering Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (HAUVs).
BeeX specialises in providing autonomous robotics solutions to safeguard underwater infrastructure in the maritime, energy and defense sectors, reducing over 90% of carbon emissions. We are pioneering Autonomous Robotics-as-a-Service (ARaaS) on a global scale, supported by decades of operational experiences in harsh waters. With unprecedented efficiency, we strive to provide our customers with a one-point solution for asset integrity management -- protecting assets they value, making sure they stay safe.
Why Join Now
The industries we serve need new ways to overcome their current challenges, and BeeX sees the opportunity in delivering exactly that, right now. Creating anything new is very hard, and we need outstanding people.
At BeeX, everyone is dependent; united by enthusiasm for bold innovation. Our multi-disciplinary team thrives in dynamic environments, driving transformative advancements globally. Join us to make a meaningful impact on the world!
You will enjoy this job if you:
- Want to work in fast-paced start-up environment, prioritizing growth over short-term gains
- Like to work independently, as well as collaboratively with team members in other sub-teams
- Have a positive learning mindset, and can quickly absorb knowledge to overcome challenges
- Enjoy design, developing and are always thinking of how to make something better
- Can assess risk and make time-critical decisions/tradeoffs in imperfect scenarios
Your Role
We are seeking a high-impactSenior Robotics Engineer to own core capabilities of our AUV platform, from autonomy, navigation, control and communications. In this role, you will play a hands-on technical role in building new subsea robotic platforms from the ground up—translating advanced research and mathematical models into real-time code, integrating software onto physical vehicle hardware, and testing solutions in real ocean trials. You will report directly to the Software Lead and frequently collaborate with hardware and operational teams.
Key Responsibilities
Simulation, Integration & Field Testing
- Simulation & HIL: Build and extend high-fidelity subsea simulation environments and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) test setups to validate new product capabilities before wet testing.
- Field Trials & Ocean Testing: Participate directly in dockside, pool, and offshore field trials to test software on physical AUVs, analyze sensor log data, diagnose edge-case failures, and iteratively refine product performance.
- Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: Partner with mechanical, electrical, and systems engineers to define sensor selection, actuator interfaces, and software-hardware integration requirements from early product stages.
Robotics Development
- Sensor Integration:Integrate and optimise hardware drivers and low-level interfaces to extract maximum performance and implicit state information, supporting higher-level autonomy and perception.
- High-Level Mission Planning:Design and execute autonomous action plans to achieve inspection objectives efficiently and safely under operational constraints.
- Mapping:Develop methods to transform noisy sonar sensor data into navigable maps suitable for autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) path planning and decision-making.
- Adaptive Mission Execution: Enable robust mission adjustment in harsh and low-visibility environments by accounting for odometry drift, environmental uncertainty, and adversarial conditions; assess deviations between expected and observed structures and respond accordingly.
- Anomaly Detection: Build capabilities to detect and localise structural anomalies or defects during inspection, and adapt inspection behaviour based on findings.
- Develop middleware drivers to link hardware with the robotics software stack, including to test and debug robotics algorithms using Software-in-the-Loop (SITL) simulation.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers in achieving their technical outcomes.
Team Leadership, Mentorship & Growth
- Engineering Mentorship: Actively coach and mentor junior and mid-level software and robotics engineers through structured code reviews, architectural guidance, and technical coaching.
- Talent Development: Foster a culture of technical excellence, continuous learning, and ownership, helping junior team members grow into independent technical contributors.
- Process & Collaboration: Establish software development best practices (CI/CD, code review standards, automated testing), drive agile sprint planning, and collaborate across hardware and hydrodynamics teams.
Desired Qualities
We are looking for an outstanding individual who is united by enthusiasm for bold innovation and has a proven background in complex robotic systems.
- PhD/Msc in Computer Engineering or Computer Science.
- Proficiency in C++ and Python within a Linux environment.
- Extensive experience writing code for complex robotic systems and familiarity with the Robot Operating System (ROS1) framework.
- Proficiency in the usage of Deep Learning frameworks such as Pytorch.
- Experience with 3D computer vision techniques.
- Experience with SLAM for localisation methods and various path planning algorithms.
- Experience with sensor and actuator hardware integration.
- Testimonial of 2 other engineers who have worked with you
Remuneration Package
- Market competitive salary
- Growth opportunities that align with your direct ability in helping the company, rather than an arbitrary corporate ladder
- ESOP / equity participation
- Healthcare support
- Special access to industry events
- Well-stocked pantry with nice snacks
- Support for skills upgrading / learning credits
