HR Generalist
Pay:$90,000–$110,000 per year
Location:Near Albany, NY (on-site)
 
When an HR team is small, the person who owns it has to be both the go-to expert and the person who rolls up their sleeves. Our client is looking for exactly that — anHR Generalist who can run recruiting end to end, be a trusted voice for employees and managers, and keep the company on the right side of employment law, all in a busy production-driven environment.

Our client is a privately held, family-run business with a long track record and a sizable team spanning strategy, design, production, and technology. They operate their own in-house production facility, serve customers across the country, and pair deep industry experience with modern tools and proprietary technology. It's a growing, innovation-minded company that values accountability and collaboration.
 
The Role at a Glance
TheHR Generalist is the company's HR subject matter expert, owning the employee lifecycle from recruitment through separation. This person runs full-cycle recruiting with a particular focus on building the pipeline for production talent, and serves as the first stop for employee relations questions, employment law compliance, and leave administration. They keep HR policies and processes current and work alongside an HR Specialist who handles onboarding execution and HR coordination. This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports.
 
What You'll Do
Recruiting & Talent Pipeline
  • Own the recruiting process from job posting through offer acceptance for all open roles
  • Build and maintain an ongoing pipeline of production candidates through job boards, referrals, community events, and job fairs
  • Manage job postings on major job boards and the company website, coordinating with Marketing
  • Conduct phone screens, manage assessment steps, and schedule interviews with hiring managers
  • Manage third-party recruiters and hold them to company processes
  • Prepare offer packages, work through negotiations with hiring managers, and hand off accepted offers for system setup
  • Track which sourcing channels perform best and adjust strategy to fill recurring roles before they become urgent
Employee Relations
  • Serve as the first point of contact for employee concerns — investigate, resolve, and escalate major issues to the COO as needed
  • Advise and coach managers on performance management, discipline, and documentation
  • Lead disciplinary meetings and separations alongside the COO
  • Review employee performance logs across the company to keep entries consistent, objective, and well documented
Compliance & Leave Administration
  • Ensure compliance with federal, New York State, and local employment laws
  • Administer leaves of absence, including NYS Paid Family Leave, accurately and on time
  • Support the COO on medical accommodation requests
  • Stay on top of employment law changes and recommend policy updates
  • Make sure required trainings, including NYS harassment prevention training, are completed and documented
HR Systems & Documentation
  • Own HR, recruiting, and onboarding procedures and company policies in the internal knowledge base
  • Maintain job descriptions and the company's organizational accountability chart
  • Participate in weekly leadership issues meetings and follow through on assigned priorities
 
What You Bring
  • 3+ years of HR generalist experience; manufacturing or production environment experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of federal and New York State employment law
  • Full-cycle recruiting experience, including hourly and skilled trade roles
  • SHRM-CP or PHR certification preferred
  • Sound judgment and discretion with confidential employee matters
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Tech-savvy, with working knowledge of Google Workspace; project management and payroll/HRIS platform experience is a plus
  • Alignment with a culture built on accountability, adaptability, and being helpful and solutions-focused
