Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the management and operation of the ship’s Hotel department in compliance with DCL and regulatory requirements
  • Hold department leaders accountable for their performance and facilitate solutions with these leaders where challenges are encountered
  • Administer the Company’s Hotel Department Annual Operating plan by reviewing the financial statements with the Division heads
  • Provide leadership and direction for the hotel operations on the ship (more than 650 crew) including Food & Beverage, Guest Services, Housekeeping, Laundry, Merchandise, Photography Concession, and Spa Concession
  • Investigate and resolve guest complaints (written and verbal) either in person or by delegated division head; work toward guest problem resolution to prevent future occurrences of similar challenges
  • Member of onboard Steering Committee, reporting relationship to Master of the vessel as well as to shoreside VP Hotel Operations
  • Monitor performance to see to the highest level of guest and crew satisfaction and financial/operational results for the Hotel department
  • Ensure crew services (laundry, crew mess, crew bar, Payroll, and other crew support areas) are maintained at a desired level
  • Recommend changes in product to enhance guest and/or crew experience
  • Conduct periodic inspections of the ship (formally or informally), monitoring the physical condition of guest accommodations and public areas, and coordinating inspections of hotel spaces by DCL and regulatory authorities
  • Oversee maintenance and revision of Hotel Department Operating Guidelines and OJT materials
  • Oversee the regular inventory of hazardous materials used in the Hotel department and the other maintenance of MSDS
  • Ensure the efficiency and productivity of the operation of all other hotel areas
  • Oversee third party vendors such as Shopping Guide and DVC sales desk
  • Perform any other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the shoreside VP, Hotel Operations
  • Actively participate in all Castaway Cay job responsibilities associated with position and line of business as directed by DCL leadership
  • Execute additional job responsibilities, as assigned by DCL leadership, based on operational need
  • Comply with all company set policies and procedures, along with all maritime and ship rules, regulations and procedures
  • Participate in Emergency Duties as specified in the ship Assembly Plan

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum five years or more experience in a Hotel Management leadership position of a large international cruise ship or land-based hotel
  • Bachelor’s degree (or International Equivalent) in Hotel Management or Business Administration
  • Thorough understanding of USPH standards
  • Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • Proven leadership skills, especially in the areas of teambuilding, innovation, communication, and service delivery
  • Experienced in providing leadership to a multi-cultural workforce
  • Self motivator; able to provide support, leadership, inspiration, training, and guidance to the Hotel department
  • Thorough understanding of financial and budgetary responsibilities; ability to read, analyze and interpret P&L and other financial statements
  • Proficient in standard Microsoft Office suite programs and Outlook email
  • Ability to multi-task while delegating and operating in an environment of constant change
  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Be able to speak, read and write fluent English
  • Willingness to live and work onboard one of our vessels for a certain length of time (based on position)
  • Be able to work a seven-day, 70-84 hour week with limited time off
  • Be able to adhere to Disney Cruise Line appearance guidelines
  • Agree to share a cabin with another crew member
  • Enjoy working in a high-volume, fast-paced, guest-service oriented environment
  • Be flexible with your work schedule, job duties and work locations
  • Appreciate diversity among guests and crew

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ship experience strongly preferred
  • CDC Vessel Sanitation certificate preferred

Additional Information

This is a SHIPBOARD role. 
You must: 

  • Be genuinely interested in a career at sea and willing to live and work onboard a Disney Cruise Line vessel 
  • Be willing to follow and perform safety role, emergency responsibilities, and associated responsibilities as specified in the ship Assembly Plan 
  • Be willing to uphold the general safety management responsibilities as specified in the Safety Management System in areas and operations under their control 
  • If applicable, be willing to share a confined cabin with other crew members and appreciative of working and living in a multicultural environment that has strict rules and regulations 
Your Responsibilities: 
  • Have a valid passport and C1/D Seaman's visa (DCL will provide you with documents to obtain this) 
  • Complete a pre-employment medical 
  • Obtain a criminal background check 
  • Bring approved work shoes
