What you'll do...
Role summary:As a Staff Software Engineer, you will lead the design, development, and deployment of scalable platform capabilities, including infrastructure, tooling, and AI/ML frameworks. This role requires ownership of the full software lifecycle, driving innovation through cloud-native architecture and data-driven decision-making. You will mentor engineering teams, influence technical direction, and collaborate across functions to deliver high-quality solutions aligned with business goals. Your expertise will ensure system resilience, maintainability, and continuous improvement while fostering a culture of technical excellence and operational agility.
About the team:
Walmart’s Associate Listening and Relations team is a full-stack Generative AI group within the People function, dedicated to empowering over 2.2 million associates globally through AI-driven solutions that enhance productivity and well-being. The team develops advanced systems such as RAG-based knowledge Q&A tools, agentic HR automation interfaces, and text-to-SQL analytics to simplify information access and actions. They focus on observability, automation, and scalability, leveraging expertise in Python, cloud technologies, distributed systems, and MLOps to deliver robust, personalized, and scalable experiences aligned with Walmart’s evolving workforce needs.
What you'll do:
- Deliver platform capabilities including infrastructure, tooling, and ML frameworks aligned with roadmap and domain priorities.
- Drive full software development lifecycle activities such as coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
- Apply cloud-native architecture principles to ensure scalable, resilient, and agile systems.
- Conduct system design reviews to validate feasibility and ensure alignment with architectural best practices.
- Build AI-driven applications integrating machine learning components and intelligent automation features.
- Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and promote engineering excellence through documentation and knowledge sharing.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to translate complex problems into actionable technical requirements and measurable success metrics.
- Continuously improve processes, tools, and products by embracing innovation and data-driven decision making.
What you'll bring:
- Proven expertise in cloud-native architecture, including microservices, containers, and automation to build scalable and resilient systems.
- Strong software development skills across the full lifecycle, including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and maintenance.
- Experience designing APIs and applying software design patterns to create secure, modular, and maintainable solutions.
- Proficiency in AI/ML integration, leveraging languages such as Python, Java, and JavaScript to develop intelligent automation features.
- Ability to lead technical design reviews and mentor engineering teams to foster continuous learning and engineering excellence.
- Data-driven decision-making skills to define metrics, optimize processes, and deliver high-quality platform capabilities.

The annual salary range for this position is $132,000.00 - $264,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
