Engineer Lead – Java / Spring Boot / React / Open Systems

Duties and Responsibilities

• Providetechnical leadership and direction for the design, development, implementation, and support of enterprise applications usingJava, Spring Boot, React, and open-system technologies.
• Lead the development of scalable, secure, highly available, and maintainablefull-stack applications and microservices.
• Define and drive technical solutions aligned with enterprise architecture, security, engineering standards, and business objectives.
• Lead the design and implementation ofRESTful APIs, microservices, event-driven services, and distributed applications.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership inJava, Spring Boot, React, JavaScript/TypeScript, and modern open-system development.
• Evaluate existing applications and lead modernization initiatives, including migration from legacy platforms toopen-system, API-driven, cloud-ready architectures.
• Establish and promote software engineering best practices, coding standards, design patterns, reusable components, and development methodologies.
• Review technical designs, application architecture, source code, and implementation approaches to ensure quality, scalability, security, and maintainability.
• Lead technical discussions and provide recommendations on application architecture, frameworks, tools, and technology solutions.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to engineers, helping team members improve their technical skills and software engineering practices.
• Partner with architects, product owners, business analysts, DevOps engineers, QA teams, and other technology teams to deliver complex solutions.
• Break down complex business and technical requirements into actionable development tasks and provide technical estimates and implementation strategies.
• Lead troubleshooting and resolution of complex production issues, performance problems, application defects, and integration challenges.
• Ensure appropriate automated testing, includingunit, integration, API, and end-to-end testing, is incorporated into the development lifecycle.
• Drive adoption ofCI/CD, DevOps, automated deployment, infrastructure automation, and observability practices.
• Ensure applications meet enterprise requirements for security, resiliency, performance, scalability, availability, and regulatory compliance.
• Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and provide technical leadership throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Coordinate technical dependencies across multiple development teams and ensure successful delivery of cross-team initiatives.
• Identify technical risks, dependencies, and opportunities for improvement and develop mitigation strategies.
• Communicate technical concepts and architectural decisions effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Stay current with emerging technologies and evaluate opportunities to improve engineering productivity, application architecture, and overall technology capabilities.
   

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 5+ years of experience in software engineering and enterprise application development.

• 3+ years of experience providing technical leadership for software development teams or complex technology initiatives.
• Strong hands-on experience withJava and Spring Boot.
• Strong experience designing and developingRESTful APIs and microservices.
• Strong experience withReact, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
• Strong understanding ofobject-oriented programming, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, and software engineering principles.
• Experience with relational databases and SQL, including technologies such asOracle, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server.
• Experience withGit and modern software development practices.
• Experience with automated testing and quality engineering practices.
• Experience working inAgile/Scrum environments.
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical design and development activities for complex applications.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to balancehands-on engineering responsibilities with technical leadership and team mentoring.
   

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience designingcloud-native and distributed applications using AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Strong knowledge ofmicroservices, event-driven architecture, domain-driven design, and distributed systems.
• Experience withDocker, Kubernetes, and container orchestration.
• Experience with messaging and streaming platforms such asKafka, RabbitMQ, or IBM MQ.
• Experience with CI/CD and DevOps technologies such asJenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab, or Azure DevOps.
• Experience withSpring Cloud, Spring Security, OAuth2, JWT, and API Gateway technologies.
• Experience withTypeScript and modern React frameworks and libraries.
• Experience with NoSQL and caching technologies such asMongoDB, DynamoDB, Google Cloud Bigtable, and Redis.
• Experience leadinglegacy application modernization and open-system transformation initiatives.
• Experience migrating applications frommainframe, proprietary, or legacy technologies to Java-based open-system platforms.
• Experience with application performance tuning, scalability, resiliency, high availability, and disaster recovery.
• Experience with application monitoring and observability tools such asSplunk, AppDynamics, Dynatrace, Prometheus, or Grafana.
• Experience working infinancial services, banking, insurance, or other highly regulated enterprise environments.
• Demonstrated ability to influence technical decisions across teams and establish enterprise engineering standards.
• Experience mentoring engineers and building strong technical teams.
• Familiarity withAI-assisted development, developer productivity tools, and emerging software engineering technologies.
