The ideal candidate must have a CHT license, at least 5 years expeirence in an HLA lab and a bachelor's degree in a related field. A Brief Overview
Under the general direction of the HLA Medical Directors, and the HLA Clinical Operations Manager, the HLA Supervisor will be responsible to provide direct oversight of licensed personnel in the Serology/Molecular clinical laboratories and coordination of clinical testing, personnel management, and administrative functions for the HLA laboratory. Maintains a broad high-level view of the laboratory's overall operations including all clinical work and regulatory compliance. Fulfills the duties of General Supervisor as defined by regulatory agencies (CLIA, ASHI, CDPH).

What you will do
- Supervise and manage the operations of the HLA Serology/Molecular laboratory. • Plan and handle scheduling for day to day work activities, evaluate work performed, and troubleshoot problems in a timely manner. • Review quality assurance and quality control data and take corrective action as needed. Maintain documentation and assure that regulatory requirements are met. • Ensure that the laboratory meets all regulatory requirements including personnel qualifications and competency, test methods, and proficiency testing, and documentation. • Monitor and evaluate testing systems and equipment for accuracy and reliability and take corrective actions when needed. • Maintain proficiency/competency in HLA lab testing, review test results, and sign out clinical test reports. • Be accessible to testing personnel at all times testing is performed to provide primarily on-site supervision and telephone or electronic consultation as needed to resolve technical problems, in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Supervise and manage testing personnel in the Serology/Molecular HLA laboratory. • Provide supervision of testing personnel staff of technologists • Responsible for all personnel matters: interviewing, hiring, developing, coaching, performance managing and terminating personnel in partnership with Human resources. Maintain records of all personnel actions. • Ensure that work and on-call schedules are made for adequate coverage. Plan daily work assignments. • Ensure orientation of new employees as well as ongoing training and development of testing personnel.
- Provide administrative leadership to the HLA lab. • Represent the HLA laboratory in relationships with SBC, with transplant centers, and with other laboratory customers. • Contribute to the development of clinical policies with the Medical Director. Implement and ensure adherence to clinical policies and procedures. • Write, review, and update protocols and procedures; maintain procedure manuals. • Recommend appropriate staffing levels. • Introduce new procedures or methodologies and participate in method updates and validation.
Education Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in medical technology or life science and five years of histocompatibility lab required. Prior supervisory or leadership experience required.
- CHT certification from ACHI (formerly ABHI) required; CHS certification preferred.
- Must hold or qualify for California license: Clinical Histocompatibility Scientist (MTR) license (qualify if you are certified by ABHI as CHS or CHT), or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (MTA) license (qualify if you are certified by ASCP or AAB as medical technologist). If currently out-of-state, you must apply for the California license before your first day of work, and license must be granted within 3 months of start date.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Expert knowledge of all aspects of histocompatibility and immunogenetics, HLA clinical testing, operation of a clinical lab and regulations governing the lab.
- Strong critical thinking ability required. Demonstrated creativity, problem solving, initiative, judgment, and decision-making skills.
- Ability and willingness to lead a high functioning team.
- Ability to direct and supervise the work of others.
- Demonstrated ability to establish priorities, manage shifting priorities, and handle numerous time-sensitive matters with multiple competing deadlines.
- Ability to work in a team as well as independently to produce, interpret, and synthesize results, from a wide variety of tests, correctly and quickly, and issue reports.
- Expert knowledge of laboratory information system/database and operation, or ability to learn system quickly.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and oral and written communication skills in English.

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $72.64 - $96.23 per hourThe salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
