Job Title: Health Safety Environment Manager
Location: Saguenay, QC
Duration: 12 months
Job Description:
- This position is a key leadership role directly supporting a key project.
- The successful candidate will be a seasoned HSE leader with experience within major projects.
Primary Purpose:
- Directly support the Project.
- Adapt the project strategies, objectives, and context into an HSSE implementation plan.
- Manage extensive and complex risks, impacts, mitigations, and investment opportunities pertaining to Project.
- Ensure project compliance with the relevant project HSSE policies and standards.
- Continue to nurture a robust social license to operate with local and regional communities, building on the work undertaken to date.
Accountabilities:
This position has the following accountabilities:
- Manage the HSE requirements for the project.
- Ensure a cooperative and productive working relationship with representatives from HSE Product Groups, AoE’s and Regional HSE Hubs.
- Ensure project activities remain compliant with agreed Company HSSE Contract minimum requirements.
- Provide feedback and input into the effectiveness of HSE processes, policies, programmes, and systems to the organisation.
- Ensure robust HSE targets and metrics are in place, actively monitored and reported in accordance with agreed requirements.
- Work closely with leadership, external affairs, communications, and studies to ensure integration of commitments, identified risks, and strategy into overall business planning.
- Build capability and oversee the delivery of critical support services such as Emergency Response, Medical Services across project locations.
Problem Solving:
- The successful candidate must have extensive experience in the resource sector navigating through complex project execution strategies.
- The incumbent must be focused, thoughtful and analytical, using their depth of experience to both anticipate risks and take action before problems arise. They will be influential and work collaboratively and across multiple functions to identify, assessment and manage critical issues as they occur. S/he will need to have a systematic focus on implementing an organized, strategic approach, while securing the support of project staff and the host communities.
- Key Relationships
- Externally, this role will have responsibility for engaging with a wide group of stakeholders:
- Project affected people.
- Local and provincial leadership.
- State regulatory agencies (in cooperation with permitting).
- Community, civil and non-government organisations.
- Joint Venture Partners.
Internally, this role will liaise with:
- Project manager and project general manager
- Projects HSE Managers.
- Representatives from the RT HSSE Areas of Expertise.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Degree qualified or significant relevant combination of education and experience in Safety / Health, Environment

To be successfully considered for this role, you should have:
- 10 years of experience in the development of large-scale projects working in complex and dynamic social and political environments.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, translating technical information for the target audience; fluency in French is required.
- Excellent negotiation and influencing skills, and confidence to operate at all levels of the business.
- Proficient in managing complex and sensitive issues with detailed reputation management experience.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively and effectively with local, national and regional stakeholder groups.
- Candidate must be a strong leader, with proven ability to develop highly effective internal relationships and guide staff and external resources with demonstrated ability to collaborate well with multiple and varied business partners.
