Help us build a different kind of university
FrontierU is rebuilding the university around the technology of today.
We exist for highly intelligent, ambitious young people who want to build companies or accelerate into exceptional careers. Our mission is to save them the years and money they might otherwise spend on a conventional degree and give them a faster path to growth.
We’re looking for a Head of Campus & Community to help launch our Florence campus and make it an exceptional place to work, learn, build, and meet people.
You’ll run the campus, own its operating budget, and shape the everyday member experience. You’ll also serve as managing director and legal representative of the Italian campus operating company.
The role
Your first task will be to get the campus ready to open, working closely with the founder. We’re preparing for at least 100 members and at least 600 square meters of coworking and event space. The campus will not include accommodation, which will come from third parties.
After launch, you’ll take ownership of daily operations and community life. You’ll have the authority to hire people and outsource services within the campus budget.
We want FrontierU to feel vibrant, interesting, and ambitious. Members should meet people who challenge them, attend events worth showing up for, and feel able to start things themselves. Your job is to make that possible without creating unnecessary bureaucracy.
Evening and weekend events are a regular part of the role. You’ll have flexibility to adjust your working hours around them.
What you’ll own
· Preparing and launching the campus. Coordinate the practical work needed to open, establish operating processes, arrange suppliers and services, and deliver the launch alongside the founder.
· Running the space. Oversee coworking operations, access, cleaning, maintenance, facilities, and suppliers so members have a reliable, welcoming place to spend their time.
· Managing the operating budget. Plan spending, track costs, manage contracts, and decide where hiring or outsourcing will improve the campus.
· Creating an excellent events program. Organize events that bring interesting people together and reflect the ambition of the community.
· Supporting clubs and societies. Appoint members to run clubs and societies, subsidize clubs and societies, help members turn ideas into activities, connect with others, and take ownership of community life.
· Handling everyday community issues. Resolve conflicts, respond fairly when rules are broken, and bring serious cases to the founder. Decisions about community rules, suspensions, and removals remain with the founder for now.
· Supporting member welfare. Take concerns seriously and help members experiencing physical or mental health difficulties access appropriate professional care. Our community welcomes members aged 16 and above, so safeguarding and appropriate boundaries are an explicit part of the role.
· Moderating the online community. Handle moderation until a dedicated hire takes over, escalating serious cases to the founder. Other online community management activities are automated.
The founder will retain responsibility for membership sales, pricing, revenue, and profitability. Your focus will be running an excellent campus within its budget and building a community members value.
What you bring
Experience organizing events and managing social communities is essential. We’re open to different professional backgrounds. What matters is evidence that you can bring people together and make things run well.
You’re highly sociable, curious about people, and comfortable making introductions. You can create a welcoming atmosphere while setting expectations and having difficult conversations when necessary.
You’re also organized and dependable. You notice what needs doing, follow through, manage competing priorities, and keep track of practical details and spending.
You exercise sound judgment, treat sensitive information carefully, and know when an issue needs specialist support or escalation. You take the responsibilities of running a company and supporting a community seriously.
You also need:
· Fluent English. Italian is preferred but not required.
· To live in Florence or be willing and able to relocate.
· The existing right to work in Italy without visa sponsorship.
· To work full-time and in person at the campus.
Why join
You’ll help build FrontierU from the beginning, working directly with the founder to turn its mission into a place and a community.
You’ll have substantial ownership over how the campus runs, the team and services around it, and the experience members have every day.
Compensation is €55,000 in annual salary, plus an annual €25,000 SAFE allocation, accruing in monthly installments with a six-month vesting cliff.
Show us what you’ve built
Tell us about the events you’ve organized and the communities you’ve managed.
Explain your personal contribution, the scale of the work, and what made it successful. We’re interested in how you brought people together, handled practical challenges, and dealt with difficult situations.
Tell us why you want to help build FrontierU and whether you’re already in Florence or would relocate.
