Beijing, China | International Mining Group | Confidential Executive Opportunity
A publicly listed international mining group is appointing its first Global Vice President of Human Resources. Based in Beijing and reporting directly to the CEO, this newly created executive role will shape a consistent HR organization across established China operations and expanding overseas projects.
The Opportunity
The mandate combines enterprise-wide HR leadership with practical delivery. The VP will lead HR leaders in multiple countries, develop global standards adapted to local requirements, and transfer established operational and people-management practices from China to international projects.
A major near-term focus is preparing the Ecuador workforce and HR infrastructure for the El Domo copper-gold project, which is currently under construction and targeting commissioning in 2027.
The Company
A publicly listed international mining group with established producing mines in China and a growing portfolio of overseas projects.
The company is expanding internationally, including the development of the El Domo copper-gold project in Ecuador and gold projects in Kyrgyzstan. The organization maintains an entrepreneurial, relatively flat operating culture while strengthening consistency in HR systems, leadership practices and workforce planning across its international operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead international HR Directors and establish clear global HR governance with effective local execution.
- Develop global job families, grading structures, compensation and incentive programs.
- Strengthen performance management, succession planning and leadership development.
- Lead workforce planning for expanding international operations.
- Support senior technical and operational recruitment across mining and project environments.
- Develop global training and knowledge-transfer programs across operations, safety and management.
- Support employee relations, labour relations and unionized environments where applicable.
- Guide multicultural workforce integration across China and international operations.
- Develop and standardize HR policies while ensuring compliance with local employment requirements.
- Support organizational design, workforce restructuring and operational scale-up.
- Advise the CEO and senior leadership team on people strategy, organizational capability and workforce risk.
- Preserve an agile, entrepreneurial culture while strengthening processes, accountability and global consistency.
- Minimum 12 years of progressive, broad-based HR experience.
- At least five years at HR Director, Vice President or comparable senior leadership level.
- International HR leadership experience strongly preferred.
- Mining experience preferred; engineering, EPC, oil and gas, heavy industrial or comparable operational sectors will also be considered.
- Experience supporting operational expansion, project development or large-scale workforce growth.
- Strong generalist HR background covering compensation, performance management, recruitment, succession planning, employee relations and organizational development.
- Experience building or standardizing HR systems across multiple locations or jurisdictions.
- Demonstrated ability to operate effectively between Chinese headquarters and international operating teams.
- Strong understanding of multicultural workforce management and cross-border employment issues.
- Fluent English and Mandarin.
- Comfortable working primarily from Beijing and travelling internationally.
The position is based inBeijing, China, with employment through the company’s Beijing entity and compensation paid in local currency.
Compensation will be tailored to the successful candidate’s experience. The client has discussed a Canadian-dollar reference point of approximatelyCAD $200,000–$275,000 base salary.
A performance-based cash bonus and discretionary longer-term share-based incentive.
Beijing-local insurance and health benefits are expected, along with approximately three weeks of vacation.
Relocation support will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Approximately30% international travel is anticipated, including travel to overseas operations such as Ecuador.
