In this role, you'll design and facilitate high-impact simulation experiences, lead debriefings, identify learning gaps, and partner with clinical leaders to improve staff competency, patient safety, and quality outcomes. You'll also support simulation technology, equipment, and educator training to ensure the ongoing success of our simulation program.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a BSN required, Masters preferred
  • Educator experience a plus (Formal experience, Clinical Coach, “Boots on the Ground”, Unit champion, and/or a passion for education)
  • Solid foundation in Simulation setting – minimum of two years of experience in this specialty.
  • Regional mindset - will support multiple ministries in the STL Region
  • Comfortable supporting the planning, curriculum development, implementation, evaluation, and change management of new simulation programs and processes
  • Collaborative thinker with a drive for excellence
  • Comfortable leveraging simulation technology
  • Positive attitude and a team player – this role requires regional and system-level collaboration
  • Steward of Resources – contributes ideas, forward thinker
  • Comfortable with travel to all SSM ministries in the STL Region
  • Maintains competency and proficiency with ongoing patient care supportad hoc

The RN Simulation Clinical Educator role would include: 

  • Preparing and maintaining simulation equipment
  • Performing simulation activities, including:
    • Simulator maintenance
    • Management of medical supplies
    • Software, hardware, and audiovisual support
  • Conducting ongoing equipment maintenance (cleaning, repair, readiness)
  • Applying moulage for simulation realism
  • Developing familiarity with IT-related support to bridge technical gaps
  • Supporting and training other educators to effectively utilize simulation equipment

In addition to performing the technical aspects of simulation, the RN Simulation Clinical Educator will:

  • Facilitate simulations that promote clinical reasoning and critical thinking
  • Lead structured debriefing to reinforce learning and improve decision-making
  • Align simulation activities with organizational priorities and quality/safety KPIs (e.g., patient outcomes, competency validation, team communication, and escalation of care)
  • Identify practice gaps and translate them into targeted simulation-based education
  • Partner with clinical teams to ensure relevance of scenarios across service lines

Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates educational activities planning for an assigned service or population.

Job Responsibilities and Requirements:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborates with nurse managers and staff to assess learning needs and competencies.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates educational plans/programs and utilizes methods, measurements and tools to evaluate achievement of learning goals.
  • Identifies and/or develops teaching tools and instructional materials.
  • Maintains training record of educational activities in the Learning Management System or similar system.
  • Applies the existing body of evidence-based practice and scientific knowledge in health care to nursing practice, ensuring that nursing care is delivered based on patient’s age-specific needs and clinical needs.
  • As an SSM Health nurse, I will demonstrate the professional nursing standards defined in the professional practice model.  Uses the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses to guide his/her response to the current and evolving health and nursing needs of our patients and our patient populations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree

EXPERIENCE

  • Three years' registered nurse experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
  • Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication. Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
  • Frequent keyboard use/data entry.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting and gripping.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
  • Rare climbing.
