As a Patient Transportation Aide, you willbe responsible for thetimely,comfortable andaccurate transference of patients, medicalequipment and other related items.In thisposition, you play a critical role in ensuring patients have access to the attention and treatment they need, offering a unique opportunity to make a difference in their lives every day.You can alsobenefit from thenumerous professional and educational development resourcesprovidedby the Cleveland Clinic system. 

A caregiver in this position works part-time evenings from 2:30PM – 11:00PM, including every other weekend and holiday. 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

• Transport patients and theirpersonal property using wheelchairs,carts and beds through the admission,discharge and transfer procedures. 

• Transport patients with/without IVs and oxygen to and fromPhysicalTherapy,OccupationalTherapy,Radiology,RadiationOncology,Physiology and other departments, including themorgue as necessary. 

• Clean,sanitizeand accountfor transportation equipment, wheelchairs and patientcarts and store in designated areas.  

• Provide wheelchairs for ACC, otherareasand visitors, restock portable oxygentanks and respond to all transport requests with a sense of urgency.  

• Activate andcomplete tasks at the start or end location via phone system. 

• Notify nursingcaregivers, clinicians,technicians or reception upon arrivalof the patient. 

• Complete required logs and forms, including Critical Information.  

• Verify correct patient identification throughappropriate means (i.e. armband, chart, pager, DOB, etc.)for proper mode of transportation and standard precautions. 

• Assist nursing caregivers inbeddingor movingpatients from bed intowheelchair or ontostretcher. 

• Consult with nursingcaregivers before lifting and transferringpatients andobtainassistance when necessary. 

• Complete transportsquickly andefficiently andnotify dispatchers when assignments areinitiated,completed or when delays/cancellations areencountered.  

• Understand and apply knowledge of basic patient transport concepts, infection controlpractices and proper body mechanics for lifting and moving patients.  

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

• HighSchoolDiploma or GED 

• Demonstrated interestandaptitude 

• Expressedgenuine concern and care for patient welfare 

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift and transfer patients requiring much assistance with minimal help.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required
