General Manager - Travel Plaza (Exempt)

Job Description:

This role oversees fuel operations, convenience store performance, food service execution, team development, guest satisfaction, and financial results. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who can drive sales, develop high-performing teams, and ensure the location consistently delivers an exceptional customer experience.

What You'll Do:

Lead and Develop a High-Performing Team

• Recruit, hire, train, coach, and develop team members and supervisors.
• Build a customer-focused culture centered on service, accountability, and teamwork.
• Create schedules that ensure proper staffing levels based on business needs and company labor standards.
• Address performance concerns promptly through coaching, training, and performance management.
• Foster a positive work environment that supports employee engagement and retention.

Deliver an Outstanding Guest Experience

• Ensure guests receive fast, friendly, and accurate service.
• Lead by example and maintain high standards for hospitality and customer satisfaction.
• Resolve guest concerns professionally and efficiently.
• Create a culture where team members consistently exceed guest expectations.

Maintain a Clean, Safe, and Secure Facility

• Ensure all areas of the travel plaza remain clean, organized, and inspection-ready, including the sales floor, food service areas, restrooms, fuel forecourt, and exterior grounds.
• Maintain compliance with all company, brand, health department, and safety regulations.
• Conduct routine safety inspections and address potential hazards immediately.
• Protect company assets through proper cash handling, inventory management, and security practices.

Drive Sales and Profitability

• Lead efforts to increase sales, transactions, and overall profitability.
• Develop and execute action plans to achieve sales goals and operational targets.
• Manage labor, inventory, shrink, and controllable expenses.
• Monitor fuel pricing and conduct competitor fuel surveys as required.
• Analyze financial reports and key performance indicators to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Ensure all cash control procedures and financial policies are followed accurately.

Manage Inventory and Operations

• Maintain appropriate inventory levels to meet customer demand while minimizing waste and excessive stock.
• Ensure proper product rotation, merchandising, vendor management, and inventory control practices.
• Oversee fuel operations and ensure equipment is clean, safe, functional, and fully operational.
• Maintain compliance with all brand standards, operational procedures, and audit requirements.
• Achieve strong results on inspections, audits, and mystery shop evaluations.

Community and Business Leadership

• Represent Onvo positively within the local community.
• Build strong relationships with guests, vendors, and community partners.
• Support local marketing initiatives and community engagement efforts.

What We're Looking For

• 3+ years of retail, convenience store, travel center, fuel, grocery, restaurant, or multi-department management experience.
• Proven leadership experience with responsibility for staffing, coaching, and team development.
• Strong business acumen with experience managing sales, labor, expenses, and profitability.
• Experience overseeing inventory control, merchandising, and operational execution.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Proficiency with POS systems, scheduling software, and Microsoft Office.
• Flexible availability, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred.
