Position Overview
Capital One's Legacy Discover API Management team is seeking an experienced Drupal / Acquia Cloud Developer to support the development, maintenance, and modernization of its external developer portal, hosted on Acquia Cloud and built on Drupal.
The primary focus of this role is supporting the migration of the existing portal from Drupal 10 to Drupal 11, maintaining custom Drupal modules, addressing vulnerabilities, applying patches, and resolving application issues. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with both Drupal development and the Acquia Cloud platform, along with strong backend development capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
•   Support the migration and upgrade of the external developer portal from Drupal 10 to Drupal 11.
•   Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot Drupal-based applications hosted on Acquia Cloud.
•   Manage and enhance custom Drupal modules and contributed modules.
•   Support backend development, including customizations and PHP-based Drupal coding as required.
•   Perform vulnerability remediation, security patching, bug fixes, and routine application maintenance.
•   Participate in Agile sprint planning, feature development, and maintenance activities.
•   Troubleshoot migration issues and help ensure the portal remains stable and available throughout the upgrade.
•   Support planned application updates and maintenance activities outside regular business hours when required.
•   Collaborate with existing engineers, participate in knowledge sharing, and contribute to technical documentation.
•   Follow established change management and deployment procedures to minimize disruption to business operations.
Required Qualifications
•   Hands-on experience developing and maintaining applications using Drupal.
•   Practical experience working with the Acquia Cloud platform.
•   Recent experience with modern Drupal versions, preferably Drupal 10 or Drupal 11.
•   Direct experience upgrading or migrating Drupal applications, particularly from Drupal 10 to Drupal 11.
•   Strong backend development skills and experience working with Drupal customizations.
•   Experience troubleshooting application issues, applying patches, and maintaining production websites.
•   Experience with vulnerability remediation, security patching, and application maintenance.
•   Ability to work independently while collaborating with a distributed engineering team.
•   Availability to work during the team's core Central Time business hours.
•   Flexibility to support occasional planned off-hours maintenance.
Preferred Qualifications
•   Experience with PHP and custom Drupal module development.
•   Familiarity with Drupal contributed modules and customized Drupal environments.
•   Experience with Agile development practices, sprint-based delivery, and technical documentation.
•   Acquia Cloud certifications are a plus but are not mandatory.
Project Details and Working Expectations
•   Primary initiative: Support the Drupal 10-to-Drupal 11 migration, with a target deadline in December.
•   Application environment: The portal includes approximately 20 custom Drupal modules and 40 contributed modules.
•   Work arrangement: Fully remote; candidates may be located anywhere in the U.S. and do not need to report to the Riverwoods, Illinois office.
•   Working hours: Must align with the team's Central Time business hours.
•   Off-hours maintenance: Occasional maintenance may be required, typically within a late-evening or overnight window, approximately 9:00 PM to 2:00–3:00 AM, depending on the change. The team anticipates fewer than five such events over the six-month contract, potentially fewer. Weekend work may be avoidable.
•   Schedule flexibility: When off-hours maintenance is required, the engineer may coordinate adjusted working hours during the week. Overtime is not expected.
•   Contract term: Six months, with no guarantee of extension.
