Foreign Military Sales Subject Matter Expert
Location: Hill AFB, UT

Clearance: Must be able to possess an active Secret security clearance.
Position Summary
The Foreign Military Sales (FMS) Subject Matter Expert (SME) is a mission-critical role serving as the primary technical and operational expert for Foreign Military Sales partners using mission planning systems.
Currently supported platforms include C-130, C-17, C-27, F-15, F-16, F/A-18, KC-130, KC-135, KC-46, and RC-135. Additional platforms may be added in the future.
This position provides comprehensive user support through a 24/7 helpdesk, delivers expert-level in-country training and system installation, and serves as the key technical liaison between FMS users, the program office, and engineering teams. The successful candidate will maintain extensive, current knowledge of various Mission Planning Environments (MPEs) and be willing and able to travel internationally to support mission planning activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Travel to locations within the continental United States (CONUS) and outside the continental United States (OCONUS) to provide on-site familiarization training and system Installation and Checkout (I&CO).
- Install, configure, test, validate, and operationally check mission planning hardware and software in stand-alone and workgroup environments.
- Tailor training approaches to accommodate varying levels of technical expertise, language proficiency, and cultural considerations.
- Maintain fluency in all relevant Mission Planning Environment (MPE) platform changes and capability upgrades.
- Perform final software and system checkouts for all FMS deliveries to ensure system functionality before shipment.
- Participate in key meetings, including bi-weekly status teleconferences, Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs), and engineering design reviews.
- Provide continuous 24/7 helpdesk support for FMS users worldwide.
- Provide post-training support to reinforce learning outcomes and operational readiness.
- Prepare detailed trip reports following each in-country visit, documenting the status of Installation and Checkout (I&CO) and training activities.
- Collaborate closely with other FMS Subject Matter Experts, program managers, engineers, testers, and United States Air Force (USAF) personnel to ensure alignment across mission planning activities.
Required Qualifications
- Must be able to possess an active Secret security clearance.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively instruct and support a diverse user base.
- CompTIA A+ or Network+ (Net+) certification required within six months of employment.
- Experience installing, configuring, and sustaining software and hardware systems.
- Demonstrated ability to provide technical support, troubleshooting, and training for complex software systems.
- Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally, often for extended periods.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
- Knowledge of USAF and FMS mission planning processes, systems, and applications.
Preferred Qualifications and Attributes
- Bachelor's degree in a related technical, aviation, or management field.
- Experience with Joint Mission Planning Systems (JMPS).
- Former military aircrew or private aviation experience.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to engage effectively with foreign military partners.
- Experience working in joint, coalition, or multinational operational environments.
- Previous experience supporting Foreign Military Sales (FMS) programs or international defense customers.
- Knowledge of Precision Guided Munition (PGM), Conventional Weapons Delivery Service (CWDS), or the Consolidated Airdrop Tool (CAT).
- Knowledge of AMPS, Falcon View, Mission Explorer, or ForeFlight.
