Job Description:Â
- Onsite in Foster City, CA | 5 days in office
- Minimal domestic travel will be required
- The Fleet Support Engineer on the Vehicle Development team serves as the highest level (Tier 3) of field technical support, focused on systemic reliability of fleet vehicles. You will be a subject matter expert in Compute systems, supporting our Tier 2 (Regional) Fleet Support Engineers on their most complex escalations. Through fleet-wide analysis of diagnostics and metrics, you will identify reliability gaps, drive down mean repair and escalation times through improved tooling/documentation, and feed critical design changes back to Hardware Engineering.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for Tier 2 escalations on Compute system issues including GPU, PSU, SSD, networking.
- Conduct comprehensive log review to identify hardware, software, tooling, and process failures on fleet vehicles
- Develop thorough troubleshooting guides for Tier 1 and Tier 2 escalations, enabling consistent and holistic diagnosis across all service depots
- Lead deep-dive investigations into novel failure modes using root cause analysis methodologies like 7-Step or 8D (8 Disciplines) problem solving techniques
- Develop short term mitigations and long term correction actions to improve vehicle safety and update, and prevent recurring issues
- Perform hardware bring-up and validation procedures for new vehicle components.
- Monitor fleet-wide telemetry to identify emerging trends in hardware degradation or firmware/software regression before they become critical failures.
- Drive closed-loop feedback by translating field failure data into engineering change requests to improve sub-system design
Qualifications:
- BS or MS in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields with a minimum of 2+ years of relevant industry experience
- Experience and skill in determining the root cause of complex issues involving HW, FW, and SW
- Deep understanding of computer architecture, GPUs, PCIe devices, SSDs, network cards
- Experience with the Linux platform - debugging failures using command line tools, parsing kernel and system logs
- Experience with diagnostic tools (multimeters, oscilloscopes/picoscope, CANalyzer, thermal cameras)
- Knowledge of automotive protocols such as CAN and automotive ethernet
Bonus Qualifications:
- Knowledge of computer networking (TCP/IP, UDP, SSH, firewall and security basics)
- Experience with diagnosing complex issues with sensor systems (LiDAR, camera, radar)
- Experience with harness debugging and repair
- Proficient in Python and git/version management tools
