Job Details:

Mercer University’s College of Professional Advancement invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Faculty of Mathematics to join the Department of Informatics and Mathematics.


 

Responsibilities:

With twelve colleges and schools, Mercer University has a Carnegie Research II classification and offers a vibrant academic community committed to student success and academic excellence.


The Department of Informatics and Mathematics is an interdisciplinary academic unit serving students in mathematics, information technology, software development, human-computer interaction, data science, and related areas. The Department also has the mission to support the University’s General Education curriculum and provides mathematics instruction for students across a variety of academic and professional programs.


This nine-month faculty position includes a seven-course teaching load spread across four accelerated 8-week sessions during the academic year, in addition to research expectations and service responsibilities. The position will be based at Macon or one of Mercer’s metro-Atlanta campuses.


The successful candidate will be an outstanding teacher with an active scholarly agenda and a desire to contribute the life of the Department, College, and University by serving a post-traditional student population.


Required Qualifications:

  • A terminal degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Statistics, Computational Mathematics or a closely related field from an accredited institution by the time of appointment. ABD candidates will be considered at the rank of Instructor until the PhD has been obtained.
  • The ability to translate teaching excellence into courses with various formats, including face to face, online, and hybrid, in an accelerated format.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Foundational and college-level mathematics teaching experience, especially  teaching students from diverse academic backgrounds, especially working-adult and post-traditional learners.
  • The ability to teach mathematics and statistics courses for an M.S. Data Science Program.
  • A passion for teaching mathematics and using creative, responsible approaches, including emerging technologies , to enhance student learning.
  • Experience in innovative discipline-specific mathematics curriculum design.
