High Plainz Strains is hiring full-time Budtenders for our new dispensary in Peetz, Colorado!

This is a new store, which makes this position a little different from joining one of our established locations.

The first employees at Peetz will help establish how the store operates day to day, how customers experience the business and the habits that future employees will eventually learn from.

We're looking for people who are dependable, comfortable working with customers and interested in learning the products and systems well enough to become genuinely good at the job.

Previous cannabis experience is helpful, but it isn't required.

Experience in retail, restaurants, grocery stores, convenience stores, fuel stations, hospitality, banking, agricultural businesses or other customer-facing work can translate very well to this position.

We can teach cannabis product knowledge.

Reliability, communication, judgment and the willingness to learn are harder to teach.

What You'll Be Doing

Budtending is a combination of customer service, product knowledge and responsible retail sales.

Responsibilities include:

• Greeting customers and learning what they're looking for
• Asking useful questions to understand what a customer actually wants
• Explaining cannabis products and product categories clearly
• Helping customers compare products and make informed purchasing decisions
• Learning our flower, pre-rolls, concentrates, edibles, vapes, topicals and other product offerings
• Developing familiarity with the brands and products carried by the store
• Learning current promotions and loyalty programs
• Operating the point-of-sale system accurately
• Handling cash with accuracy and integrity
• Checking products and orders before completing transactions
• Helping process online and pickup orders
• Stocking and organizing products
• Maintaining an accurate, clean and organized sales floor
• Following company procedures and Colorado cannabis regulations
• Communicating with Front Desk, other Budtenders and store leadership
• Helping maintain efficient customer flow during busy periods
• Using slower periods for stocking, cleaning, organization, product learning and other store responsibilities
• Recognizing when you don't know an answer and finding accurate information rather than guessing

Good budtending isn't about knowing the most cannabis trivia.

It's about listening to customers, understanding the products well enough to explain them clearly and helping people make purchasing decisions without making the interaction more complicated than it needs to be.

Some customers will know exactly what they want.

Others may be entering a dispensary for the first time.

A strong Budtender learns how to serve both.

Help Open a New Store

Peetz is a new High Plainz Strains location.

That means our opening team has an unusual opportunity to help establish the store from the beginning.

There won't be years of existing store habits for a new employee to simply inherit.

Our opening employees will be learning the operation together, establishing routines, getting to know the local customer base and helping determine what good day-to-day execution looks like at this location.

That makes reliability particularly important.

We're looking for people who show up when scheduled, communicate when there's a problem, learn procedures, accept feedback and contribute to keeping the store organized.

Opening a new location also means there may be adjustments as we learn actual customer traffic patterns and determine what works best for the store.

Employees who are comfortable learning and adapting will have an advantage.

Working in a Small Community

Peetz is a small community, and we expect many customers to become familiar faces.

That can be one of the enjoyable parts of working here.

You'll learn how regular customers prefer to shop, become familiar with the products they purchase and develop relationships with people who return to the store.

But familiarity doesn't change the rules.

Friends, neighbors, relatives, regular customers and first-time visitors all have to be served according to the same company procedures and Colorado cannabis requirements.

Someone saying, "You know me," doesn't replace a required verification procedure.

Being friendly and being compliant aren't competing responsibilities.

A good Budtender does both.

Product Knowledge

You don't need to arrive knowing everything about cannabis.

You do need to be willing to learn.

Budtenders should gradually become comfortable discussing major product categories including:

• Flower
• Pre-rolls
• Concentrates
• Vape products
• Edibles
• Topicals
• Cannabinoid content
• Product formats and serving information
• Brands and products carried by the store
• Current promotions
• Loyalty rewards
• Value options at different price points

Our stores carry products from across the Colorado cannabis market as well as products manufactured within our own company.

You aren't expected to memorize every detail about every product.

You are expected to give customers accurate information.

If you don't know something, find out rather than guessing.

Working in a Smaller Store

Customer traffic will change throughout the day.

When we're busy, everyone needs to communicate and keep customers moving without sacrificing accuracy, customer service or compliance.

When things slow down, there is still work to do.

That may mean stocking, cleaning, organizing products, checking orders, learning products and promotions or helping with another store responsibility.

We're looking for employees who can eventually recognize what needs attention and take care of it without needing a manager to assign every task.

In a smaller store, individual employees have a noticeable effect on how well the operation runs.

That also creates opportunities to learn more of the business rather than being limited to one narrow responsibility.

Schedule

This is a full-time position, generally scheduled30–40 hours per week over 4–5 shifts.

The Peetz dispensary is planned to operate approximately9:00 AM–8:50 PM, seven days a week.

This position therefore requires retail availability that may include mornings, daytime shifts, evenings, weekends and holidays.

Schedules are based on store needs and employee availability.

Because this is a new location, scheduling needs may be adjusted as we establish actual customer traffic patterns and operating needs.

Pay and Tips

Base Pay: $15.16/hour + tips

Budtenders receive tips from customers in addition to their hourly wage.

Because Peetz is a new store, we don't yet have enough actual operating history to publish a meaningful average tip rate.

Tip income will vary based on customer traffic, sales, staffing, shifts worked and other factors and is not guaranteed.

Rather than advertise an estimate borrowed from another location, we'll let Peetz establish its own actual tip history.

The guaranteed base wage is$15.16/hour, with tips as additional variable compensation.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for people who communicate well, are comfortable working with customers and are interested in becoming knowledgeable about the products they sell.

Strong candidates are dependable and capable of working productively without constant supervision.

They should be comfortable handling money, learning retail systems and following procedures consistently in a regulated environment.

Experience in any of the following can translate well to this position:

• Retail sales and customer service
• Grocery stores
• Convenience stores and fuel stations
• Restaurants, serving or bartending
• Hospitality
• Banking or credit unions
• Cash handling
• Point-of-sale systems
• Customer-facing agricultural businesses
• Other small-town customer service businesses
• Cannabis retail

Previous cannabis experience is useful but not required.

For Peetz specifically, we're interested in people who understand what it means to work in a smaller operation.

Sometimes several customers may need attention at once.

At other times, you're expected to recognize what needs to be stocked, cleaned, organized or prepared and get it done.

We're particularly interested in people who listen to customers rather than simply waiting for their turn to talk.

Product knowledge matters, but communication matters too.

Being able to explain something clearly to someone who knows very little about cannabis is often more useful than knowing technical information you can't communicate effectively.

We can teach someone who wants to learn.

You also don't need to make cannabis your entire personality to work here. You should be interested enough in the products to learn them well, enjoy helping customers and take the responsibilities of working in a regulated industry seriously.

Colorado Cannabis Requirements

Applicants must beat least 21 years old.

Employees must hold an active Colorado Marijuana Enforcement Division (MED) Employee License before beginning regulated cannabis work.

Candidates who already have an active MED license are encouraged to apply, but having one at the time of application is not required.

Candidates who are eligible and willing to obtain one before beginning work are welcome to apply.

Employees are responsible for obtaining, maintaining and paying for their required MED license.

For applicants coming from outside the cannabis industry, don't let the license requirement discourage you from applying simply because you don't currently have one.

If you're eligible and willing to obtain the required license before beginning regulated work, you can still be considered.

Budtending can be more than learning a menu and completing transactions.

A strong Budtender develops product knowledge, learns how different customers shop, becomes proficient with retail systems and promotions, understands the compliance requirements of cannabis sales and learns how a successful dispensary operates.

Joining Peetz during the opening period also provides the opportunity to learn a store while its routines and customer base are still being established.

Employees who perform well and demonstrate reliability, product knowledge and good judgment may have opportunities to pursue Lead Budtender, Assistant Manager, Store Manager or other positions within the company as openings become available.

A retail progression can include:

Advancement isn't automatic or simply based on time in the position. We want employees to build the skills necessary to take on additional responsibility successfully.

High Plainz Strains is part of Nature's Herbs & Wellness, a locally owned Colorado cannabis company that has been operating for more than 15 years.

We're still privately owned by the same people who founded the company and have longstanding roots in Northern Colorado.
